Sony eBook Library Software 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Slow, unresponsive, generally buggy... ![]()

Remember the spinning rainbow pizza? Install this and you can rediscover its hypnotic power. This software is so badly thought out. Example: the interface is based loosely on iTunes, but when you click on the computer icon to browse your Hard drive for text files you can only navigate one way - down. If you want to go back up to an enclosing folder or even the root of your hard drive too bad. But then nobody would need to do that would they?! [alert admin]

Transmission 1.73 (Mac OS X)
Infinite progress bars appeared in 1.73 release
Transmission is my preferred bit torrent client. It's great. However, a cosmetic bug has appeared in the current release. The progress bars go on for ever - even if you resize the app window you can't see the end of the bars! [alert admin]

MoviesForMyPod/PSP/Phone 1.5 (Mac OS X)
I'm sure this used to be free. $59 seems too much for the basic features of this app. There are still plenty of free alternatives... I suppose. [alert admin]

SerialMailer 5.6.2 (Mac OS X)
Pretty good product - destined for greatness. ![]()

I think this is a good product. I use it quite often and find it fairly intuitive to get going with in the beginning. Some things still need a bit of work however - for instance, if you enter the wrong SMTP server details and try to send mail it can hangs and when you click the cancel button nothing happens - which leads you to a force quite situation. Despite these kind of rough edges I still think it's a great piece of software with a future, certainly the best of it's kind / in it's price range for the Mac. [alert admin]

This version, unlike the PC version 2.5, has no SMS funtionality. Thanks Skype. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Safari menu services for apple mail broken?
I can no longer send safari content via apple mail through the services menu in safari (Safari/Services/Mail/Send Selection). Any one else notice this? I'm not 100% sure that this safari update killed it - or if it was due to one of the last 2 security patches. I have no other problems with my system. [alert admin]

PithHelmet 2.6.5 (Mac OS X)
Frequent crashes with Ebay searches
PithHelmet used to work great until I upgraded to Tiger - now it crashes frequently when searching Ebay. I finally trashed it and replaced it with an ad-blocking CSS file from floppymoose.com combined with a Plug-in called SafariBlock. Safari has not crashed at all (after 6 days heavy use) it is Ad free - and it seems faster than it ever was with PitHelmet!!! Ollieman.net has packaged the css file and SafariBlock plugin with instructions on how to install here: http://ollieman.net/code/adblocking/ If you are getting crashes with PithHelmet like I was I recommend trying this approach. This app is ridiculous. When you ask it to un-install itself it can't even do that properly. Do a search afterwards and you will find 'yank.log' and 'yank.plist' hanging around. Oh, and a folder called 'Matterform media'. And they expect people to pay for this? [alert admin]

OK - I found an option in preferences to 'automatically size window to fit all transfers'. Either this had become unchecked during the auto update - or it's a new option / feature. Note to developers: this really should be checked by default.

Yes, it does this to me too. Every time I revisit a site where auto fill is active it quits the whole app. Messy. If I uncheck the auto fill feature in the preferences it doesn't quit - but doesn't auto fill (of course). Pity.
