AvantGo USB sync 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Great to see some other effort on this....

...long standing issue with AvantGo :-( I too got a couple of errors during communication. I'll definitely keep my eye on development. In the meantime, for almost a year now I've been using my hacked version of malsync to sync over infrared wireless. Instructions and downloads are available on my site here. [alert admin]

iSightWeb 1.0b1 (Mac OS X)

Keep up the good work....switched to EvoCam for now!

This is a valiant start, hope the author keeps it up; however, I discovered the much more mature EvoCam! (no dropped images, faster refresh, FTP upload-wish it was SFTP, and a built-in Java Streaming Video Server for goodness sake!):

iSightWeb 1.0b1 (Mac OS X)

Just what my iSight needed to join the Web Cam craze!

Great, this is the first app I've seen come along for capturing pictures from the iSight. For this to be useful to a non web development savvy person, much would need to be done towards automation say with built-in ftp upload, perhaps a webpage template. There's a couple of other fine tunings I'd suggest like adding Nothing for separator selector, allowing for custom image sizes. I wonder if the CPU usage could be cut down by turning off th preview video when you just need to have it running in the background uploading.
I managed to do the backend for live web updates though and if you want to see this in action here's a couple web cams I just threw up:
jasonshanks.com
melecules.com-Kitty Kam

Still hunting around for an open-source solution for this that I could maybe contribute to if anyone knows of one? [alert admin]

Fire 0.32.e (Mac OS X)

Love Fire, but currently abducted by Apple ;-)

I loved using Fire through the past year or so. Hope the next major revision has some much needed enhancements like tabbed or all chats in one window pane capability. Unfortunately I'm currently under abduction by the new Audio/Video features of iChat AV Beta! Fire has otherwise much superior functionality and configurable options. Hope the team stays in there. Miraton 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Mysteries of the Miraton Unleased.....

This is a cute little app for the hobbyist. The High latency (length of time from a key press to a sound heard) doesn't make this very feasible in a professional setting - but that's not the target audience. Perhaps these are limitations of the Open Media Toolkit used to make this. I loaded in some sine waves, drum loop and a couple of effects and was rocking away for a few minutes. Then I wanted to save my setup and it wasn't until the second start up that I realized you can close the Load Sounds in the FIle menu by clicking that to get back to the Save Setup options.

Suggestions:

  1. Although the second time around I discovered the onboard help, some more explanation of the unorthodox interface would be good, and additionally in a readme before getting into the app.
  2. Perhaps the latency could be helped by not flashing the parameter settings everytime a key is pressed (but optionally when say OPT+Key is pressed)

Tip for the User: This app will still produce sound when hidden, so coupled with other apps such as Rax/MidiKeys you've got a whole studio of free tools on your hands (no additional music hardware necessary!)

Hey Spaze Crafte....haven't heard from you in a while, give us a shout out from NY!

iTerm 0.7.7 (Mac OS X)

Goodbye Apple Terminal!

Thank you so much. I've become a Tab Addict and introducing this to my terminal usage has rocked my world. I even find it faster in usage than Apple's Terminal app in creating new windows and browsing directories, etc. One request: The Pref for Open Bookmarks on Startup led me to believe it might open my set of bookmarks in Tabs-which would be GREAT! And to be able to parse them startup commands (like ssh user@anotherserver) would be great too. Thanks for such a great effort! [alert admin]

Workspaces 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Expose is nothing like this....Clean & Simple!

You guys should take a look at Exposé's features, it does nothing of what this app can do? This is a pager - standard fare in X-Windows, and similar to other efforts on OSX (Space-abandoned; Virtual Desktop-overbloated?). This is definitely the cleanest and simplest implementation of an osx pager yet!

I must admit though, I would love anyone to enlighten me on how this could really help me when reduced to 1 monitor as I've been trying for some time to wrap my mind around it. Most apps I use take up the full screen space, so using an app that can auto-hide other apps when switching (LaunchBar-my fav) almost seems more intuitive. A pager only seems useful to me when you have multiple apps in a set that fit on one window. Is there something I'm missing?

Bushisms 2.1 (Mac OS X)

You too can be a script kiddy...answers revealed inside!

USAGE TIP: The download includes the following: 1. Readme File, 2. Bushisms folder (goes in your ~/Library folder) 3. Bushisms (THE SCRIPT) - this can be run from anywhere.

What I suggest is putting the script inside this folder: ~/Library/Scripts/ (create it if it's not there). Then add the Scripts menu to your menubar by opening this: /Applications/AppleScript/Script Menu.menu

Now before you send your email you can select Bushisms.app from your *new* script menu.

ASIDE: While I concur this is a forum moulded and guided towards software review, this is not a black/white dualistic world and seen as this software is DECIDEDLY political in nature I would excuse those below (including myself) from exploring that gray area of human interaction. My apologies to the machina for the off-topic 1's and 0's. [alert admin]

Bushisms 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Republicrats Unite! (tongue in cheek)

Great idea! It would of course be more ideal to be a mail.app plugin that wouldn't require the extra step, keep at it please. Political Commentary continued.....Ron L. I have studied a lot of about how this our political system operates (as a Republic and certainly farther and farther from a democracy). It's equally appalling to me how when what little democracy we have (our right to vote for instance) is totally thwarted at a crucial juncture like the last prez 'selection', and doubly disturbing when our collective short-term memory let's it eventually go unchallenged. Without going into minute details, all the official evidence is available to verify yourself that: 1. Thousands of legitimate voters in Florida (mostly black & hispanic) were turned back at the polls and threatened to be arrested if they protested (2 constitutional rights violated); 2. Over 500 absentee ballots were counted that were determined inelligible by Florida state law. All this adds up to Bush not only losing the popular vote but the electoral vote as well. Face the facts, we're living under a political coup right now and when representation such as the act of voting has the posibility of thwarting that, it has been demonstrated to us that it will be struck down by any means necessary.
