StuffIt Expander 10.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Crashes Virex 7.7, too

I installed the Stuffit Expander 10.02 update on Sunday, March 19 (freshly downloaded via VersionTracker), and two days later, (today) I noticed that my /var/log/system.log was full of notices about VShieldCore crashing. VShieldCore is part of Virex 7.7. I looked in the crash log (/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/VShieldCore.crash.log and found that VShieldCore was failing to find libraries that it wanted in /Library/Frameworks/StuffIt.framework/ and /Library/Frameworks/StuffItSupport.framework. After restoring these frameworks with Retrospect (replace corresponding files), no more crashes. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Updater won't work

I can't get the updater to work. It authenticates, but when I click "Update" there is a brief flash of activity, and then the window reverts to the "Apply Update" window. The version of TTPro remains unchanged. I tried uninstalling and re-installing TTPro 4, and repairing permissions, and booting in safe-boot mode, to no avail. [alert admin]

ATTO Configuration Tool 3.02 (Mac OS X)

OEM Card cannot be upgraded

I bought an OEM UL3D last year. I learned from ATTO tech support that the OEM card has no NVRAM chip. Therefore, it cannot be upgraded or configured. Basically this means that you can have 160 MB/sec bus, but no smart SCSI features such as command tagged queueing, etc. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2004 R2 13.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Tax rates, brackets incorrect

The tax rate and bracket information in R2 are hopelessly incorrect, at least for married-joint taxpayers. The rates for 2003 have been available for months (at least). Anyone can get the correct information from the IRS web site (download instructions for 1040)--but apparently, Intuit can't do this. Also, their figures for standard deductions and exemptions are too low. The only solution is to get the correct rates and other numbers from the IRS and enter them into the Tax Calculator. Virex 7 Scripts 1.04 (Mac OS X)

Overwrites man page for vscanx with a link

I upgraded Virex 7 to Virex 7.2.1. It turns out that Virex 7.2.1 installs its man page at /usr/local/share/man/man1/vscanx.1 Virexscripts 1.04 wants to write a link at that location. This needs to be fixed. It seems that the main thing Virex 7.2.1 needs, in order to make the man page accessible, is to update the manpath. This is done in /etc/manpath.config. [alert admin]

MPlayer OS X 2.0b6 (Mac OS X)

2.0b6 Hangs seconds after starting play

This version hangs just seconds after starting play on a file: Love_Hina_-_24_(AXP_-_Dual_Audio_-_395D6628).ogm . According to VLC, this file uses a DX50 codec, bit count 24, width 640, height 480, Audio codec vorbis, sample rate 48000, bit rate 101001 (both audio streams). Previous version worked fine for me. Setup is dual 1GHz G4, MacOSX 10.2.8, latest updates, latest quicktime, 512 MB RAM. [alert admin]
