Apple Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Mac OS X)
Installation was smooth. My biggest quirk with 10.4, the spotlight freezings when starting to type a find string, has been fixed. I am a happy camper. [alert admin]

You gotta love a nice detailed changelog like "improves website compatibility, application stability and support for 3rd party web applications"... [alert admin]

Proteus 4.11 (Mac OS X)
A few weeks ago I never thought it was possible, but I have completely switched to Adium, and I haven't looked back since. It is much leaner and stable than proteus. The prime of Proteus has come and gone unfortunately, especially since the original developper quit and it was bought out. [alert admin]

CocoaMySQL 0.5 (Mac OS X)
MySQL changed the password hashes with version 4.1. Workaround for this utility and any other older mySQL utility: set your password with OLD_PASSWORD() instead of PASSWORD(). Something like UPDATE mysql.user SET password = OLD_PASSWORD('password') WHERE user = 'root';. It uses 16 bytes hashes instead of 41, compromise is slighly lower security, but it will make it backward compatible. [alert admin]

BitTorrent 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)
I can't believe what I'm reading. Is this newbie fest?
Click on the little rectangle, top right corner, the usual button to make a toolbar appear. What appears? Oh my, max UL speed, max num of downloads!
Try limiting your upload speed a bit, it will work wonders and will limit the CPU hogging (mine uses around 2-3% CPU). [alert admin]

Deja vu all over again. Apple fixes the old firmware, and releases a new form factor as an excuse to not update older ipods. Version 3.0 means the end of new features for 1.x and 2.x ipods. Very frustrating. [alert admin]

Linksys befsr41/befsr11/befsru31 1.46 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Of course, they HAD to release that the day after I just bought a new router because of that very problem! Oh well, I guess it was worth it, I now have a wireless router. [alert admin]

Azureus BitTorrent Client 2.0.8.4 (Mac OS X)
Keep in mind this is Java software, so it has the generic, java gui. This is as close to a mac standard interface you'll get unless someone develops a plugin for it (if it's even doable), but I doubt the main developpers will take time to do that. I hope they won't, they're much more needed on the actual development and bug fixing. [alert admin]

released Quartz Extreme, they explained why only AGP machines were supported. Their explanation made sense to anyone with a shred of technical knowledge. But what is the justification for this? You mean to tell me the hardware doesn't support the new features? That thing can run Linux for crying out loud! It is very possible they rushed that one out of the door to support their music store, and that they wanted to keep some kind of exclusivity for the new models with the new features. But if they don't release a new firmware update for old ipods when the new ipods ship, the only logical explanation I can think of is Apple trying to get us to buy new ipods in a very cheap way. (then again, why tweak the UI if you're only releasing a patch pending a new bigger update? That one really puzzles me. Anyways, I'm mad at them) [alert admin]

Of course they won't update it, it's all over now for pre-clickweel owners. the only update to pre-3g ipods since 3g came out has been format updates to support the music they sell.
