Yummy FTP 1.7.2 (Mac OS X)
YummyFTP is * ugly (nice icon and website though) * sucks up background cycles like nobody's business While Interarchy is sitting in the background with several windows open, looking like part of the OS, and using only .1% of CPU time, YummyFTP is jumping between 2 and 10% of CPU time. And it looks like hell when it's open. Bought this one at MacZot for $10. Really regret it as there is absolutely no way I want to look at this oaf or let it steal background cycles. Just wanted a backup FTP client in case Interarchy is ever flakey. I bought YummyFTP based on the outlandish 5 star rating it has here on VersionTracker. I am very surprised at this rating. Horrible registration process through esellerate. This is really a beginner's FTP client for somebody who opens and then closes their FTP client not for someone who lives with SFTP open all day long. Tables 1.4.4 (Mac OS X)
If you are a normal Excel user, Tables is just what the doctor ordered. Straightforward, easy to use. Excel has been the irreplaceable jewel in the Microsoft Office suite for a long time. Excel was always faster and more sensible than Word. Tables is like an ideal Excel: trimmed down and with a more attractive interface. Unlike Numbers, Tables does not use a lot of resources, either memory or CPU. OTOH, there are some issues with font display (many fonts are unreadable at smaller sizes, although turning the default font to Lucida Grande solves those display issues). The price is high on account of the Euro-$ relationship. Over here in Europe, we have to live in Euros so I understand the pricing. I think Daniel would do well to take the low dollar into account and lower the price somewhat - about ten euros. It is a good value at the full price, but you have to think long and hard about whether to use Neooffice or not. [alert admin]

teleport 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
If you've looked around at KVM switches you've seen that they are pretty dicey. Either they don't work or are buggy or the video doesn't pass through well. If you can manage to get your video going into a monitor with multiple inputs (preferably all digital!), you don't need a KVM switch any longer. Teleport will get you there better and faster, with clipboard switching and file transfer. And it takes all of two minutes (1 minute per Mac to configure - don't forget to have a quick look at the read me on the way) Unbelievably and very generously, Teleport is donationware. After the onslaught of crappy and overpriced shareware the Mac has had to put up with in the last couple of years (enough to make one think of switching to Linux), it's nice to see a developer creating high quality donationware. I sent in $20. I hope others are doing the same. If Teleport is still running as smoothly in a year, I'll send Julien another donation. [alert admin]

Screen Mimic 2.3 (Mac OS X)
Same feature set as iShowU more or less. Three and a half times as expensive. iShowU has a more congenial interface (for me). Ouch. A lot of these screen recorders don't have reviews as people find one good one and can't be bothered troubling with the others. They all have high ratings from the first seeded reviews. Only plus is that as the developer of Synk, the guy has staying power. I didn't really care for Synk in the end either (couldn't do what I wanted simply, and ended up just doing everything in SuperDuper, although SD wasn't quite the right tool for the job, at least it works quickly and reliably). flvThing 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
flvThing is free: not nagware. It's compact: 107k. It's Intel compatible: doesn't run as PPC in activity monitor. The picture is resizable. The interface stays out of your way: semi-transparent overlay when you have your cursor over the playing video. It's perfect. The only downside of flvThing is that it uses a huge amount of processor process, running at 85% of Core2Duo Macbook as I type this. VLC will play flash but it doesn't let you fast forward or jump on the timeline. [alert admin]

NetFixer 0.2 (Mac OS X)
Easily beats free Paparazzi or paid Mac Snapper. NetFixer actually works successfully on most recent OS 10.4, 10.5 configurations unlike the first two which are inclined to work sometimes, sometimes not. Silly name though. [alert admin]

Pixelmator 1.1.4 (Mac OS X)
Not suitable for any production work ![]()

* no save to web * very slow save * huge files as the headline said, Pixelmator is not suited to any kind of production work and is way overhyped at this point. It looks good but you can't get any work done. I wish it were the Photoshop killer, but for the moment the Dalide are not Jack and this is not a beanstalk. [alert admin]

Videobox 2.6 (Mac OS X)
In the meantime, I've found that TubiTunes works better for downloading web video. It's even a little less expensive. [alert admin]

Web Snapper 2.3 (Mac OS X)
There is a free and better alternative called NetFixer. The name is not great but the software works very well. [alert admin]

I'm still waiting. The only thing which seems to worry Tim is VersionTracker feedback, not users. Tim, customer service starts before VersionTracker. At this point, we don't really care if your feelings are hurt, because you are annoying us and wasting our time with your dissembling.

TubiTunes works on all the sites I tried
including Viddler and several other simple flash embedded videos (not centralised). TubiTunes is outstanding, like most of Peter Maurer's software.

Oh, for the record, I've contacted the developer five times and I still don't have my refund. Great to see you monitor the forums - it would be nice if you would take care of your customers instead.

On the developer's machine it works...
is a common refrain. At this point you should be experienced enough not to be making that argument. It really doesn't solve the users' issues. Think hard about how you are coding Default Folder X. It's just too aggressive a model, interfering too deeply with the OS. Try and figure out a liter way to get the core functionality. When you added APE you were really off the path. It's a pity to lose Default Folder to memory leaks…

involved in running a small software company. It's not a joke. I used to be a Default Folder advocate/junkie in the Mac OS 7/8/9 days. Unfortunately in the OS X world, Default Folder has never been as reliable (not that we didn't have crashes from Default Folder then). I wish you would stop focusing on expanding Default Folder, but focus on making a lite version which is absolute stability. What I have against you/Default Folder are the hard system…

Yes, Benjamin, it's clear you are a nice guy and that you support your customers. But per case authorisation is not a scaleable model for a one man business. It's not scaleable for the customers. As I said before, if I had to this much babysitting for all the shareware I buy, I would be out of a job as I would be spending all my time just sending out authorisation emails (for what it's worth,…

Bugs...
Folks - if Default Folder X appears to be causing problems, you have to let us know! VersionTracker is not the place to post bug reports - if you send them to us at support@stclairsoft.com, I'll see that they are addressed. Posting here that "Default Folder X crashes" doesn't get it fixed. It doesn't crash on our machines or our testers' machines, so…Original feedback item : Read More(1 words)
