InstantShot! 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Why bother?

You can simply use the included Preview application's Grab... (File menu). [alert admin]

Broken Display 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Just garbage

The developer wrote:

"At Intel Notebooks you will notice the Fans spinning full speed while the Screen Saver is running. This is the case with almost all bigger Quartz Composer Applications and is a normal behaviour"

Nonsense. I have seen and used many Quartz Composer-based screen savers and none hammered the CPU like this one apparently does.

One more thing: Beware of visiting his web site--it will zoom your browser window to full screen. How presumptuous and rude!

ScreenCaptureX 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Duplicates built-in functionality

Tiger's included Preview application does all this and more. Check out Grab... under the File menu. [alert admin]

CD Stack 1.0 (Mac OS X)

AAC?

This utility is a great idea. I'll wait until you add AAC and Apple Lossless encoding capability before trying it out. [alert admin]

Apple Aperture 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Big Improvement

The 1.1 update vastly improves conversion of Canon EOS-1Ds RAW-files and is now clearly superior to Adobe Camera RAW (ACR). Aperture 1.1 deals much better with chroma noise than previous versions did and seems to employ a much improved de-mosaicing algorithm. Chroma noise is noticeably lower compared to ACR and Aperture shows fewer halos and other artifacts in high contrast areas. Also, the default rendering of Aperture's RAW converter is well balanced. Usability is amazing and speed is even better than the previous version. Apple has got my money on this one... [alert admin]

Skyrocket 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Wow!

Looks and works beautifully even on this G4/400. Easily the best fireworks screensaver I've ever seen. Good Job, thanks! [alert admin]

DVD2oneX 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Good job

Truly optimized for the Mac, no more pricing rip-off relative to the Windows version, Nicely done--thank you. [alert admin]

Formulate 0.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Cheaper than Acrobat but...

The author says that his product is cheaper than Acrobat. That's a bit of a misdirection--Tiger's included Preview application lets you fill in PDF forms, too. [alert admin]

iSweep 1.3 (Mac OS X)

No way

Improper use of the command-w shortcut. Launching iTunes without warning. Help does not use the system's standard Help interface. There is no indication of the functional difference between registered and non-registered versions... I stopped there. That was sufficient for me to trash this app before even exercising its functions. BTW, hijacking a universal system shortcut (command-w) is particularly egregious. What was the developer thinking? MP3 Decoding

"It's a better idea to submit bug reports through the web site than to post them on Version Tracker, because when you submit through the web site we will work with you to get the bug fixed." No, you won't. Look at the feedback for this product--numerous negative comments regarding, among other things, your abusive upgrade policies have been ignored. Is there any reason to expect a different reaction to other problems?

Installation is convoluted unworkable joke

"Can't figure out the installation" Huh? Are you sure you're talking about Google Video Player? It's completely compliant with best Mac OS X application installation practices--pure drag-and-drop. What part confused you? BTW, there is no "uninstaller," nor is there any need for one: If you don't like the application, drag it to the Trash.

ICECoffee also

"...as ICECoffee does other things" It does indeed--like other APE-based hacks and utilities, it destabilizes your system and makes it prone to software conflicts and incompatibilities. Service Scrubber has no such drawbacks.

Good First Generation Product -- Now supports Nikon D200

"Apple has shut down its Aperture development team" Obviously not true. Aperture continues to be developed. The FUD surrounding this innovative and effective application is ridiculous.

Disappointing. Apple Needs To Do Better.

It's a Cocoa application: Select the text you wish to count, pull down the application menu ("Pages"), go to Services:Statistics. BTW, what are "panes?"
