Spring Cleaning 10.0 (Mac OS X)
I am completely annoyed by their dial home e-mail tool. There is no information on what they send out, how they use it or where it goes. Fortunately, PGP blocks it most of the time, but I've had it and am removing the utility in favor of CleanMyMac. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 4.0 Build 3540 (Mac OS X)
Upgrade to 4.0 still buggy at 3540
After several years of successfully using Parallels, I am dismayed at all the issues with the 4.0 release. I have yet to have the program run more than up to a dialog complaining that it misinstalled itself. Version 3.0 works fine. I am running on a MacBook Pro with plenty of memory and disk space. It appears to be a 50/50 mix of success/failure. Suggest you wait for a newer build before trying this. [alert admin]

Interarchy 9.0 (Mac OS X)
I've used Interarchy since its days as Anarchy (v1.4), and this is the best update EVER! Faster, easier to use. Just works. [alert admin]

PhoneDirector 1.0.7 (Mac OS X)
You can use this tool to merge phone books (e.g. when sharing with a family member or migrating to a new phone with a few entries). I got this from MacMedia.k: 1. Export the contacts from the old phonebook as a vCard file 2. Download the phonebook from your new phone 3. Import the vCard file to the downloaded phonebook Plus, I recommend: 4. Save the new phone book as backup [alert admin]

PhoneDirector 1.0.7 (Mac OS X)
Event though this doesn't officially support the Nokia 6820 or 6822, it works fine. I've used this for a couple of years now without complaint. Furthermore, the 6822 was not supported until yesterday (10/31/05). My 6820 had to be replaced and when I got a 6822 replacement (free upgrade from supplier due to lack of inventory), I was disappointed it did not work. A few short e-mails later, a new minor version of the product was available and it works. Best of all, I was able to recover all my phone numbers and data from the 6820 because of this product. Toast Titanium 7.0 (Mac OS X)
The cost of this upgrade plus observations from others have convinced me to NOT upgrade. When the company cleans up its support and shows more loyalty to its existing users (e.g. a reasonable upgrade price), I will consider this again. NOTE: I've used the previous product versions for several years. Functionality was fairly good. The enhancements don't make that much of a difference. Buy an old copy if you can find one. PGP Desktop 9.0.2pb1 (Mac OS X)
Version 8.1 was good. This version broke big time, and they are unresponsive. [alert admin]

Skype 1.0.0.39 (Mac OS X)
Used this a lot and find that the quality is excellent in most cases. I travel a lot and find that quality does vary due to Internet connectivity (on both ends). Hotels that boast broadband often have lower bandwidth out of the hotel, which is deceiving when connecting to a cable or wireless from the room. Landline connections also vary a bit for the same reason. Interface is maturing, overall it's very good. [alert admin]

PGP 9.0 doesn't work where 8.1 did ![]()

First, I've been using PGP since 1.0 with reasonable success. So I consider myself reasonably literate on this subject. Purchased PGP 9.0 (full price) in anticipation of Tiger (not yet, but soon to be installed). Had to contact them multiple times before they finally got my license to me (via e-mail). Install went smoothly. Key management seems good as usual. MISSING: Drag'n drop support appears to be gone. There's not palette to drop into. I suppose this is because the peecee's don't have it. In the Mail tool, the DECRYPT button complains on ALL encrypted e-mails I try to decrypt. Worked fine in the previous version. Complains about a format problem in this version. This is true for both OLD and NEW messages.s WORKAROUND: Use GNUpg and scripts. Messy, but works. PGPdisk continues to work. The new mail interception thing didn't work at all. In fact it shut down my incoming e-mail until I figured out how to turn it off and remove it from all the accounts. DANGEROUS and apparently buggy. SUPPORT: None unless you want to pay exhorbitant prices. They don't even have an effective forum to my way of thinking. Really leaves me with a sour taste. OVERALL: I am saddened by the current state of this software. I hope they will wake up an fix the bugs and support their supporters. I reluctantly recommend this product because I like PGPdisk. Mail needs a better Filter Rule Editor
I have TONS of filters (I get a lot of e-mail), and I need to be able to edit filters effectively. Eudora had a FIND that worked in Filters. Also, Mail requires a click to edit each rules, instead of the nice system in Eudora. This is important. Maybe somebody can direct me to the location where rules are stored and I can write my own tools. [alert admin]
