Mah Jong Solitaire 2 V2.00b (Mac OS X)
Gotta love this game! Although, it can use a little more razzle dazzle effects, such as glistening light, reflection etc. And this soundtrack wouldn't hurt either. http://www.kyodai.com/kyomusic.en.html [alert admin]

mlMac 0.7.5 (Mac OS X)
Plain and simple: mlMac, a GUI to mlDonkey, gets you all the files you ever need, period. It finds you files that Poisoned or Kazaa can't. If you upgraded from mlMac 0.7.2, chances are you are now looking at a seemingly blank window with nameless files. Do not panic. Your downloads are all right. Just go "Open Web Interface...", or type "localhost:4080" in your web browser, and you'll see that the filenames are there. This could be a problem with mlMac 0.7.5. What I ended up doing is move my Temp folder out of mlMac folder (the one inside Application Support), delete my mlMac folder, restart mlMac, replace the Temp folder with the one I saved, and do a recover_temp. Slightly annoying, perhaps, but still a lot better than going over to Poisoned (Kazaa). [alert admin]

Demonstar 1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Everything in this game is a throwback to the late '80s, early '90s arcade scene. If you want Raiden, get the ROM and get MAME. They're free and you can easily find them. Does a game like this deserve a 5 star rating? Perhaps to a top down shoot em up fan. To me, a 5 star game should go beyond a flat 2D scroller. Far beyond. [alert admin]

Noiz2sa 0.5 (Mac OS X)
It has everything--okay, most things--that can be found on a top down shoot-em-up. The crucial element missing? Textures! So here's an idea. Throw out the "abstract" part, put in realistic graphics, and more varied gameplay, and we have ourselves a winner. [alert admin]

OIDS.X 10.0.4 (Mac OS X)
I knew this game in its first incarnation as Choplifter from Broderbund. It played like a champ on Apple II+, a 1MHz 6502 processor. And some of you old gamers might even remember it as some other vector game variant in video arcades. However when Choplifter came out in the late 80s in full cabinet form, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.
Anyways I tried out this Atari ST variant tonight for the first time. Despite having been celebrated on the Mac for some time now, I've never once touched Oids. The graphics wasn't persuasive enough for a jaded gamer like me. But... 5 STARS! Oh my! So there I was loading it for the first time. The welcome screen was an eyeful, and that got my hopes up. But then what follows was a time warp trip back to my Apple II+ days. And people played this on the ST?
In short, it may be a fun game to the old school Atari ST gamers, but it's time someone gave this a full OpenGL update. Take a look at what someone did to Choplifter. Hard to believe this is a one man effort. [alert admin]

Gaichu 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Contrary to what bwexlar said, this game is a clone not of Pacman, but Lady Bug from Universal dating back to 1981. So yes, it is a Pacman clone but so were most games of that era. But whereas the original Japanese cabinet art for the 80's Lady Bug has a hall of fame look, the current incarnation on the Mac can only be described as an ephemeral me-too anime. The original picture can be found here.
I only hope this game will go through many revisions to eventually be realized in full 3D featuring those gorgeous nymphs from the original cabinet art. Perhaps they can even be super deformed for cuteness effect. [alert admin]

sixtyforce 0.8.0 (Mac OS X)
To run Mario 64 anywhere near playable condition (that is, without making your head spin and stomach churn from choppy framerate) you should ideally be equipped with at least a 1GHz G4. A 2MB L3 cache probably helps too, but I can't say for I haven't tested this on an eMac or iMac. And here I need to address "Another Linux app better on OS X then on Windows". "i tried the equivalent for windows "mupen64" on a 1.8Ghz AMD 2200+ XP and it plays around 100 times worse then on my Dual 867Mhz and a radeon 8500." Likewise I've tested quite a number of emulators on both AMD and Intel processors. When it comes to emulators, dollar for dollar, the Mac doesn't have anything on the PC. The one emulator on PC that did it for me is Project 64. If there is an emulator to port to the Mac, this is it. Even the source code is available for download: http://pj64.emulation64.com/ The trouble, of course, it's DirectX based. Is it fast? On the Celeron 2GHz + Geforce 3 I tested? Oh yeah. At least faster than an entry level MDD PowerMac... Which is twice the price of the Celeron. Hello? Steve? "Videolan video player is also on Windows and it is a horrible player, and the OS X version is really 100 times better almost as good as on Linux ;)." Yes, as usual the OS X version has the prettiest interface. However there is a very glaring omission on the OS X port of Videolan: noise filtering. Without this, most single CD AVI movies encoded in DIVX 3.1 is barely watchable. What about MPlayer OS X? Yes, it has preset noise filtering, and the cursor key jog shuttle implementation is perfect. But playback is a dog. Lucky for us there's 3ivx. Combine that with Xvid Delegate and Divx, AVI on the Mac isn't too shabby. And btw, I really don't get this "emulation on the PC" thing. Look at it this way, if there are thousands of game titles out for the PC every month, who in their mind would go, "hey, why not I play Super Mario 64 on my Windows? Yeah, that'll totally kick ass!" Seriously. These guys should be writing emulators for the Mac instead. [alert admin]

There's no effective way of preventing _any_ Bittorrent client from crashing. Your best bet is to limit the number of downloads. I know from experience if I have more than two files each over 1GB open, Azureus will crash like you wouldn't believe. FYI, it also crashes on my PC. (I did only this as a test.) But on Windows, you can still quit the program, thus skipping the slow-ass hash rechecking. (what's up with…

Bittorrent of all variants: the original, Tomato, Azureus, all locked up my 10.3.6 running iMac G5. Although I can move the mouse, and The Dock's Genie effect works, I couldn't Force Quit or call up Terminal. With mlMac at least I could sudo kill it with Terminal when mlnet goes out of control.
