EyeTV 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Can't record both HDTV and NTSC :(

I was an early adopter of the USB EyeTV, and the 200. I've had an HDTV for a long time but have had a slow computer as my AV system. Since I just upgraded my computer (mactel mini) i upgraded to the EyeTV 500 as well. Utterly stunning picture quality. The only problem now, and it is A VERY BIG PROBLEM is that I have to physically disconnect one and re-connect the other, in order to switch between program guides and scheduled recording. eg: I record a certain HD show on wednesdays, so on monday I plug in the 500 and set the scheduled recording. On thursday my show is sitting in the bin, good. Then I unplug the 500 and plug in the 200 and set it to record my favorite (NTSC) show for friday. I have to do this hoop jumping EVERY WEEK! This is utterly the worst problem with the otherwise perfect EyeTV software. It is not capable of coping with more than one device for scheduled recording!! When oh when will you fix this? You've been promising a fix for a very long time. Okay maybe that's NOT the worst bug, but if it isn't then this is: VERY often I want to watch my show the night it airs because I don't want to wait. If it's an hour show, I wait a half hour or so after it starts, so I can skip the commercials, but I won't catch up with "real time" until after the show has stopped recording. So I'm watching my show, skipping the commercials, but, as the hour hand hits the hour mark, *BLIP* the EyeTV software kicks me out of my recorded show and starts showing me live TV. Every time. I've asked for this bug to be fixed since the USB version came out and they always say "sure, sure" but I guess they just don't imagine that many people are infuriated by this bug, over and over and over, week after week. Well, other than those TWO lameosities, the EyeTV really is the best thing there is. -dave [alert admin]

DisplayConfigX 1.09 (Mac OS X)

interlaced modes *do* work for MacMini

Just wanted to give this guy full credit! With generous email support from the author, i realised my problem (reported earlier) was just pilot error. I am now easily able to output interlaced video formats from my MacMini (Early 2006 model, Intel Core Duo, with the intel GMA 950 graphics chipset). I'd like the user interface to be a wee bit more obvious, but it surely gets the job done! Excellent stuff! [alert admin]

No 1080i for new MacMini?

I wrote to the author several days ago, and did not hear back. The author claims "compatability with the new MacMini", however, I can not make it work with 1080i. I see others are having success with 1080i on other machines. When I add that resolution and restart, it does NOT show up in the menu (as 480p does show up). What am I doing wrong? The software seems to be perfect, except I can't find value in it if it doesn't work on my setup. I'm happy to re-evaluate if i've done something wrong. Thanks. -dave [alert admin]

Karaoke DVDs?

I'm not sure. Is it just a data disc filled with (optionally zipped) MP3+G files? If so, then yes. If it's just a regular DVD, then you'd use the "DVD Player" application.

Will not recognize SoftKaraoke files

I'd like to help, but I don't have time to reverse-engineer a proprietary format, so sending me files won't help. The only way this will happen is if you can find, scrounge, beg, borrow or, um, otherwise procure the technical specification for their file format. -dave

Won't open/Crash

Advice: Posting on a forum is a sure way to not get noticed right away. I happened to look today, but I haven't in a week or so. Why didn't you write directly to me? I check my email every hour or so. Saying "it crashes" in a forum is silly, especially for a program under active development, where the crash may be gone by the time someone reads the post. Please folks, for…
