and it works as advertised. No more delayed responses, no more kernel panics after disconnecting the USB receiver. Finally they got it right! [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.2.2 (Mac OS X)

So far so good

Installed this version last night and it's working ok so far for my 10.3.9 system. Using Cary's tip to leave the mouse icon in the dock seems to help (but I have no data as to how it would be w/o). They even seem to have fixed the obnoxious delayed response after awaking my VX Revolution from sleep. In version 1.9.3 I had traced this behavior back to the com.Logitech.ControlCenter.Daemon.plist file, which used to grow in size at a rate of about 4kb an hour to 1MB over a couple of weeks and made my mouse really sluggish. As soon as I had replaced this plist file with a small back-up copy, the mouse was more responsive again, so I did this routinely once a week. In 2.2.2 this plist file so far appears to stay stable in size - crossing my fingers! I'm also curious as to whether the issue has been resolved where removing the USB receiver could cause all kinds of problems, incl. eventual Kernel panics on restart - only fixable by safe booting, uninstalling and reinstalling LCC. I'll find out about this in the near future I reckon. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Bug fixede

I upgraded to 2.1.1 only to end up with kernel panic at the next startup. Back to 1.5, then tried again 2.1.1. and again ended up with kernel panic at startup. Went to logitech.com to see what's going on and sure enough found 2.1.2 (posted there on 12/21/06), installed it and it works flawlessly as advertised. Though I'm still working with my keyboard/mouse duo (am waiting for my VX revolution to arrive), thus, can't comment on the potential issue of recognizing the new mouse (17"PB, 10.3.9). Swap Cop 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Works as advertised

Does what it says under Panther 10.3.8 on my PB - helps me to avoid a disk full alert on my relatively small boot partition, which was filling up with the increasingly bigger swapfiles. Now all my swapfiles get written onto another partition and interestingly they are all 76.2mb in size (no more getting bigger and bigger). [alert admin]

SafarIcon 2.1.5 (Mac OS X)

Incompatible with ShapeShifter

I've used SafarIcon for a couple of years together with Themechanger. After upgrading to Panther, I switched to ShapeShifter and SafarIcon doesn't work anymore, i.e., it installs the icons and all (as can be seen when switching back to the Aqua Theme), but any other theme applied via ShapeShifter overwrites SafarIcon:-( Bummer. Any help from the author in the near future? [alert admin]

Ejector 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Jaguar?

Well, the merged version ain't working on my Jaguar version. When I double-click the app, the icon appears briefly in the menubar, but within a second or so it disappears. Same if launched as a login item. 0.6 version for Jaguar works so far as advertised [alert admin]

StopStart 0.3 (Mac OS X)

Flashy alternative

Try Donelleschi's Cunning Fox ($14.95), which can stop and/or kill any running app in a pop-up window and dynamically shows cpu and mem usage of each app. [alert admin]

While I largely agree with Bloobie,

here's a more accurate and comprehensive definition of the term atheism. The term atheism is formed of the Greek prefix a- (meaning "without" or "not") and the Greek-derived theism, meaning a belief in a god or gods. The literal meaning of the term is therefore without a belief in a god or gods, making any person who does not believe in the existence of a god or gods an atheist -- including both those who assert that no gods exists and those who, for whatever reason, do not make any assertion regarding the existence of gods. In modern usage as reflected in most dictionaries, atheism is the assertion that no gods exists, or that the existence of gods has infinitesimal probability. Atheism is not synonymous with irreligion (Irreligion is the absence of religious following. Although people classified as irreligious do not follow a religion, it does not imply a lack of belief in a god or gods); the idea of an eternal non-created universe is an important concept in some religions and as such it is possible to be very religious and very atheistic. On the merits of this app: quite entertaining, conversions are sometimes rather quirky, but all in all a pretty funny idea. [alert admin]

Incompatible with ShapeShifter

Additional info for diagnostics: the SafarIcons actually are installed and show when I click&hold on any button. So, shapeshifter themes just cover the SafarIcons.
