Apple QuickTime 7.4 (Mac OS X)
DO NOT UPGRADE TO THE NEW QUICKTIME ![]()

This problem is affecting both MAC AND PC users. DO NOT UPGRADE. Don't ruin your MP4 encoded movies. Wait until they find a fix. I've tested all of my movies (unprotected MP4 files) and they do not play on my Mac. Further testing indicates they also doesn't play with QuickTime directly by finding the file in the iTunes folder using QT Player. This is NOT an iTunes problem as I've seen some people say on other boards but definitely a QT problem. The same "broken" movies do play from VLC so it's a problem with the QT plug-in and/or codec file(s). The "broken" movies also won't play in FireFox via the QT plug-in, reporting a QT logo with the flashing "?" error. I removed DiVX component and that did not correct the problem. All symptoms remained the same. I tried this because DiVX is famously bad for breaking things. Further, the old standby of deleting preferences files has not changed thing. Running QT player or Running iTunes and then opening the movie requires a force quit. Running it from within a browser doesn't lock it up, though, just the error. Movies NOT in the iTunes directory were not all affected and some play [alert admin]

Apple CHUD Tools 4.6 (Mac OS X)
Insists that I have no valid drive to install to. They all have the red exclamation points. It tells me to uninstall 4.4.3-5 and the install 4.4.4 -- which doesn't work either. I'm back at 4.4.3-5 [alert admin]

Adobe Help Center 2.1 (Mac OS X)
It doesn't work and crashes right before the install finishes. Blech. [alert admin]

Microsoft Virtual PC 7.0.2 (Mac OS X)
.... It's made the impossible slow VPC v7 even slower. I have a 2x2ghz G5 and it takes forever to boot (3 to 4 minutes even load a saved state!) and forever to load Firefox, or any other application. MicroSloth just sucks. [alert admin]

Tubetrack 0.6.0 (Mac OS 9)
It still crashes the system on launch. It just doesn't work. [alert admin]

Tubetrack 0.4.2 (Mac OS 9)
The second I run it, the finder starts to force-quite (all applications close) and then my system locks up beyond repair forcing a reset. I still cannot recommend this product. (And I really want to use it) [alert admin]

Apple DOS File System 1.0a36 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I use OS-9 and was excited that I'd finally be able to get my ProDOS disks to read on my Mac (and maybe even my 400k Mac disks!) Except the program keeps crashing. It says I don't have CarbonLib installed but I do. I've rebooted, everything. It just dies. If anyone has a solution, let me know. I'm dying to use this! -- Eric (darsys at aol dot com) [alert admin]

Tubetrack 0.3.1 (Mac OS 9)
However all it does is lock my system up to where not even a force quit will help. So I cannot recommend it. [alert admin]

Omikron Basic 7.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I use this product on OS-9 and it's awesome. I don't mean that as a hyperbole, either. The program does EVERYTHING the old Professional Basic on the PC did (the precursor to visual Basic) did. It did everything AC Basic on the Apple IIgs did (AC Basic was related to QuickBasic Mac but sucked less). It does everything Z-Basic on the Mac did. It's freaking awesome (the old MacAddict happy guy). I wish they'd make a PC version too. I bought this and am upgrading to 8.0 as we speak. Oh, and their tech support is great. When I found an obscure bug, they emailed me an entire new beta version for free so I could make my program work. These are AWESOME people. If you like to program for fun, if you want to make your old PC, Apple II, etc programs run, this is for you. My sole (tiny) complaint so far has been that the file I/O routines are very different from what I'm used to. But that's me. -- Eric [alert admin]

Not only does 4.0 fail to actually SEE any new updates (I have tons of items with checks that ARE up todate), the CMD-D for download key-combination no longer works.
