Word Browser Plugin 3.0 (Mac OS X)

THANK YOU Manfred Schubert!!

Ok, I'll admit it--I am almost giddy at the return of this simple, but wonderful plugin. I don't remember which system upgrade broke the previous version, but I have SO missed having the ability to view Word documents within Safari. Especially since a website I need to visit fairly frequently for work insists on posting their daily schedule in Word format--and even with Quick Look, it was still a pain-in-the-a$$ to have to download the document first every time. And then there are the sites that offer forms and templates in Word format--now I can look first and decide which to download. I'm so happy to have this back, I would send the developer some money if there were a donate button somewhere. But in the meantime, thank you so much. [alert admin]

BdCalendar 1.16 (Mac OS X)

Great App, and Inexpensive

I'm chiming in with those who have already described this as an especially handy and useful app. I don't routinely use even half of its features (it has so many!). But several that I do use regularly aren't easily accessible or even offered in some full-blown calendaring programs, let alone other menu bar type calendar utilities. And this program's implementation, and customization options, just make it a joy to use. I'll also second the comments about the developer's responsiveness. I received a same-day response about a small bug I came across during my trial period last year, and the fix was in the next release put out shortly thereafter. As for the price: I tend to judge a utility app's value by how much time and effort the app will save me over time, and the value of that time. After using this app for the trial period, I cheerfully paid $15 for it, with no doubt that it had *already* paid for itself. So have no thoughts that, OMG, I overpaid, now that the developer has dropped the price to $10. It's a bargain for what it offers. [alert admin]

Entourage Email Archive X 3.3.0 (Mac OS X)

Wonderfully efficient software, responsive developer

4+ years ago, after looking at all the options for archiving my Entourage emails, EEAX was the clear winner. And this little program has grown by such leaps and bounds since that time that I never doubt that I made the right choice. With each revision, it's become simpler and more efficient to use, and the v3 GUI/processing improvements really are outstanding. The developers are also incredibly responsive. A report of a minor glitch (in a beta) was answered within minutes and a fix released that same day. A support question was also answered the same day, with helpful suggestions not specifically related to the functioning of EEAX. I agree with whitexmouse: this application *is* a gem in its category. Default Folder X 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Worth every penny

I'm not going to take the time to look up how many years ago I first bought a license for Default Folder, but this is one of those utilities that I can't imagine being without. I've even made friends purchase a license as a condition of my continuing to help them with their computers because it's just so frustrating not to have the convenient navigation this little gem provides. Each upgrade has delivered improvements, and any instabilities along the way have been quickly fixed. And I don't think there's been an upgrade fee since we switched over to OS X? So absolutely no complaints here about paying another $15 —that's a pretty measly amount when measured against the literally constant benefit this utility offers. [alert admin]

EasyEnvelopes 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)

VERY nice!

Does exactly what it says, quickly and easily, and for free! And I'm especially impressed that it'll allow use of an image logo for the return address. So I feel a little greedy suggesting a feature/tweak, but I need to include the company name line on many of my envelopes. With that, I'd happily pay for this free widget. [alert admin]

StickyBrain 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Agreed, Great Upgrade

Even with its few quirks, I happily paid my upgrade fee this morning. Version 2 has served me well, but the improved interface and features of this one make for a very welcome upgrade. Much easier to find. organize and review my many clips of this and that, and the lightning speed and ease of the Flash Note menu item is a real winner (even if it's window is a bit ugly). My own suggestions/requests for improvement: the ability to change color, opacity, and other window characteristics (size?, window type?) of multiple notes at a time. And my preference would be an all-in-one "palette" of options instead of contextual menu selections. [alert admin]

BuddyPop 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Fixed, and working for me

Developer has already fixed the display bug, and this version is now working beautifully. I love this program, and use it multiple times daily--among other things, it's my method of choice for VERY quickly pulling up phone numbers from my Address Book. The added features of this version are much appreciated. And big thanks to the developer for this update's addition of the font size preference! [alert admin]

Kensington MouseWorks 2.5b1 (Mac OS X)

Remove Horizontal Scroll indicator

Oh, come on guys... Go to the Mouseworks System Preferences, and look at the bottom of the Scrolling tab. Checkbox lets you turn the menu item on and off. [alert admin]

Chronos Personal Organizer 4.5.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Best, but needs an update

My sentiments echo most of those below--i.e., over the years, I've tried almost every other PIM, and despite it's outdated interface and much room for feature improvement, this one still beats them all hands down. The appointment, task and contact management, all in any number of user-configurable categories and sets, with smooth synchs to my Palm, make this app almost indispensible. But every time Apple upgrades the OS, I hold my breath hoping that PO still works. I don't suppose anybody has tried running PO under Panther yet? [alert admin]

iPassepartout 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Second chance

I previously (10/1/03) submitted a comment complaining that the trial version self-crippled too quickly to realistically evaluate this program. Having since obtained a time-limited (one week) evaluation license from Softobe, I can now recommend this app as a very handy utility. For me, what first sets it above others of its kind is the ability to preview, from within the found files window, the contents of what it's found. No more opening file after file trying to isolate the right one out of many similar documents. The ability to then copy contents from within that preview, again without opening the document in its native app, just makes it all that much better. Like Levon River, I'd also like to see the search string in context, preferably highlighted. And although the expert search allows date parameters in the search, I'd like to see date modified for each file in the found list. But even as is, this app makes life enough easier for me that I happily paid for a full license. [alert admin]

Damaged dmg for version 2.0.2

Saw a similar problem here. After downloading with Safari (3.2.1 on an Intel iMac, 10.5.5), the unzipped dmg wouldn't open at all from Path Finder (which uses DiskImageMounter). And from within Finder, it opened with an alert that said it was damaged, not repairable, and was being opened with limited functionality. And Disk Utility also indicated it was damaged and couldn't be repaired. Interestingly, after copying Spotless out of the dmg…

Great, but still missing something...

You've *resorted* to running both LaunchBar and DragThing?!! I've always used both, for different features, and both are among the handful of utilties that i wouldn't be without. Why are you sounding like it's a hardship to run two really great programs, each with its own set of incredibly useful features?
