Have a 20 inch iMacG5 with 1GB RAM. Ran Disk Utility to verify drive and Repair Disk Permissions before I installed 10.4.11. I did not do so after the installation. I attempted to open Safari and did not even get a splash screen when it crashed. Occurred twice and sent a report to Apple. [alert admin]

Making the Grade X 1.2v (Mac OS X)
MTG doesn't appear Mac-like because it predates the Mac
I began using Making the Grade when it was Gradebusters 1/2/3 on the Apple IIGS. It was a vast improvement over my personally written BASIC program, so I was not hesitant to be the first in my school district to "pay" for the program. It was not until two years later that our school district understood the value of this program and purchased a district license. My own school had already purchased over 20 individual licenses before that occurred, but we were not unhappy. Yes, I would love a more Mac-like experience (including being able to use the scroll on my mighty mouse), but I won't give up this program just for that reason (I am a Mac Addict, but will put up with some limitations when an outstanding program makes my school recordkeeping so much easier). MTG is the fastest calculating grade program available for Mac or Windows that I have seen. My district tried to switch us to another gradebook which was glacially slow, but that decision was reversed relatively quickly. If I have all my grades updated, it takes me no more than a couple minutes to export each class and upload it for progress reports or final grades. Very simple and reliable. I regularly print pdf versions of individual student reports to email to parents. We have not taken advantage of the capability to post our grades online, but that is also available. This is only a short review of my take on the features of MTG, but since I have used it in various forms for nearly 20 years, I think that my opinions have some merit. [alert admin]

Calico Panorama 1.3b3 (Mac OS X)
Very happy with Calico for 8 months ![]()

I downloaded version 1.1 in April of 2006, not expecting much. I discovered that I didn't need to do anything other than have all the photos together that I wanted Calico to stitch. I expected to be required to carefully adjust each photo before Calico would handle the final alignment, but discovered that I didn't need to do anything. Once my test panorama was completed (with the watermark added), I decided to immediately purchase Calico. I downloaded Calico on the 12th, tested it on the 13th and 14th, and received the reg. key on the 15th. I had no trouble with receiving the key. Reply was prompt and Calico worked perfectly on my initial attempt after receiving the key. I tried a 360 degree panorama from photos taken in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The stitched final outcome was amazing. I heartily recommend this app. [alert admin]

WeatherManX 1.9.4 (Mac OS X)
All my forecasts for US and Canada are now back in 1.9.4 ![]()

Version 1.9.2 solved many problems from earlier versions, but I still didn't have full forecasts for my Canadian locations. Version 1.9.3 completely eliminated all forecasts for Canada, so I returned to 1.9.2. Version 1.9.4 has now brought full functioning to my Canadian sites. I only wish that radar images were possible, but it's another country.... Thank you, Dean, for your hard work and prompt replies to emails. [alert admin]

Virex Definitions 060501 (Mac OS 9)
6.1 still works if SpeedScan turned off
I am still using Virex 6.1 in Classic running 10.4.6. I was briefly unable to install DAT updates in February, until I turned SpeedScan off. Then the update installed fine. Everything has worked until today when I attempted to install the 06-06-01 DAT update for 6.1 which failed with an error code of -48. Anyone have any ideas? [alert admin]

Camino 1.0 (Mac OS X)
1.0 fails to read underscores properly ![]()

I just upgraded from 1.0rc1 to version 1.0 today. I have been very happy with Camino over the years, but I removed 1.0 and reinstalled 1.0rc1 because of a flaw I discovered while updating our website. Pages which are named using an underscore fail to be recognized. I thought that my web design program was at fault until I used Safari to view the pages and had no problems. I then removed version 1.0, reinstalled version 1.0rc1 and the pages were once again available. The bug fails to recognize an underscore and claims that the offending page is not available. I will continue to use Camino, just not version 1.0 (yet). [alert admin]

Making the Grade X 1.1f (Mac OS X)
Printer buffer error corrected in 1.1e ![]()

The page counting and printer buffer crash error have both been corrected as of version 1.1e. MTG is still the best Mac or Windows teacher gradebook and is highly configurable. The authors are prompt in replies concerning requests for improvements as well as for bugs. Our school district has purchased a district-wide site license which is very affordable. [alert admin]

Making the Grade X 1.0k (Mac OS X)
I have used MTG since its first days on an Apple IIgs and have not found a better or faster electronic gradebook for teacher use. It is simple to use, but has a multitude of expansion capabilities for the advanced user. The 50,000+ student Elk Grove Unified School District in California has had a district license for many years. Updating to the OS X version cost us only $500 for the entire district (no future costs for this platform). Our Student Information System allows MTG templates to be uploaded for middle and high school grades (Elementary report cards are more complex and only online grading is possible). The only minus to version k has occured when using the printer buffer. All pages print, but when attempting to close the class and open a new one, MTG crashes. No data is lost, but I have had to work around the problem by printing only one class at a time. I am certain, however, that Jay Klein Productions will solve the problem quickly. [alert admin]

Safari Crash fixed--remove Safari Tidy and FLVR first ![]()

Upgrade stars to "4". I discovered that I had not removed all Safari additions. I dumped FLVR and Safari Tidy components from all Libraries and Safari 3.0.4 now opens and operates. Remember to remove any and all additions to Safari before major upgrades (I failed to follow that advice this time, but everything was quickly remedied). I don't know which addition caused the trouble. I have updated to Videobox, the new version of FLVR, but have…
