TubeTV 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Great for YouTube to iPod videos! ![]()

This has a simple, elegant interface: You "grab" your current YouTube video (or browse just like Safari), download and convert, then put on your iPod. I am in old-music-video and international-fashion-show heaven. This is one of the most useful apps I have--and it's free. (I like it so much, I donated). [alert admin]

CoverScout 2.3.7 (Mac OS X)
I've tried various "get album art" widgets in the past with mixed results. After consolidating my iTunes libraries I had 170 GB of music and a lot of missing art so I decided to give this appĀ a try. I'm really glad I did, as it has helped me supply the missing artwork to hundreds of albums. I liked the Google search options, the way that results can be viewed and compared quickly, the clipboard for saving choices and the ability to edit the album image (which I used to scale images up or down to eliminate annoying white edges). I also like the way CoverScout will associate the album art with the songs internal tagging instead of residing in an external folder (the iTunes default method). This way, when I create a new library, the album artwork will still be with the songs. Note: My iTunes music is on an external drive and this did not cause any problems in CoverScout. [alert admin]

Absolute Acey Deucey 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Wonderful version of an old favorite ![]()

I took up backgammon again after a LONG absence, and then my partner persuaded me to try Acey Deucey. We play the analog way--outdoors, on the patio and I needed a way to practice but didn't want to play online. This game is the perfect solution for me. It has an elegant interface and it's tons of fun. Yes, it's pricey, but well worth it for the enjoyment. And the the computer suggestions are a great learning tool. To the reviewer who believes the computer opponent plays poorly: All I can say is that I'm challenged. There is a LOT of luck in Acey Deucy--that's part of what makes it so enjoyable (or infuriating!). Games tend, I think, to be won or lost by big margins. All I can say is, if you play enough, I think you'll find plenty of challenging games (and plenty of bad, as well as good, luck.) [alert admin]

Yojimbo 1.0 (Mac OS X)
If, like me, you find StickyBrain or DevonThink too bloated, but find digital notebooks too simple, give this app a try. What I like: The interface is clean and elegant. The Drop Dock tab/tray makes it very easy to drop information into Yojimbo, as does the Quick Input Panel. There is syncing across computers using .Mac. There is optional encryption for any document or folder. And I love the smart folders for URLs, Web Archives and Serial Numbers. (The Serial numbers template is equally useful for any type of registration or inventory information.) Contrary to another review, while the EDUCATIONAL license is limited to one user and one machine, the INDIVIDUAL license supports any number of machines, but only one user. I like it so much I'm going to buy it. [alert admin]

Do you own and use an iBook or Powerbook and a desktop machine? Are you looking for a cheap, easy, safe way to keep large project folders synchonized between the two machines? If so, look no further than Synk. With an elegantly simple interface, it picks up the changes in both folders, lets you preview what's being copied, then synchronizes both folders quickly and easily. Why pay more? [alert admin]
