XviD_Codec 0.4 (Mac OS X)
But will it encode into AVI files? MOV containers suck for portability. [alert admin]

DivXRay 3.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I tried the demo. First time, it crashed without opening. Second time, it came up, but when I try to open a clip I captured with iMovie, both the DV and MOV files are grayed out. I guess this is only intended to encode DVD images. [alert admin]

SoftRAID 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)
It remains the case that not being able to mirror the system disk removes most of the usefuless of such a product, especially one that costs money . The real question is as to why Apple doesn't *BUNDLE* this functionality. [alert admin]

Full Color Bossa 1.0 (Mac OS X)
How can a color possibly be "exotic"? And how can something that displays static full-screen images that aren't even mostly black be considered a screenSAVER? [alert admin]

Customized Terminal invocations?
I'd buy this product - or any other - if it could do what I've been doing with uwm/twm/fvwm for fifteen years: I want a root-window (desktop context?) menu, or even one hung off of the Terminal icon in the dock, into which I can place entries to invoke Apple's Terminal with specified foreground//background colors. I know that the invocation part is possible, since TelnetLauncher can do it. [alert admin]

LiveStage Pro 4.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I looked at the description here. I waded through the developer's site. I still can't figure out what it actually *DOES*. [alert admin]

It's well-documented that certain camcorders have faulty FireWire implementations that require them to be the only devices on the bus. That's not FCE's fault.

The cost of .mac is considerably more than $9, no? Yes, I can manually back up my calendar. What I can't do is get it to sync to my phone, and what I don't want to have to do is back it up every time I make a change then load the backup file onto my PowerBook.

Someone in a weird one-time situation like that can do just fine with grep. This tool clearly isn't designed for that person.

Since Apple thinks we're too dumb to differentiate media, they've disabled DVD+R in firmware.

I edited a clip in iMovie I used QT Pro to export it to a DV file, since I could find no option in iMovie to do so. I fed the .dv file to D-Volution, told it to do 2-pass The resultant .avi claims to have an audio track, but there's no sound.

What could you possibly be doing that would *require* that you set up M$ Exchange?

I'm using the bundled X11 that comes with Panther - the other builds would seem to be dead ends.

>commandline activation is frequently required Oh horror! Heaven forbid that you use your keyboard! >and as often as not there may be something missing or something a user failed to do > and the installation doesn't work. Funny, I use several X11 applications daily because nothing comparable is available natively, and they work just fine. > Uninstalling the stuff after it has been installed is next to impossible. I'm guessing that you don't use FINK.

rzeman: depends on the dictionaty you are using
Like I said, XP does a marvelous job at doing this, don't see why this is so hard to implement on OS X. Same here. I find the OS's functionality counterintuitive, and had hoped that MIX would supply the same functionality that M$WXP has, but instead I get stuff like a menu with 20 identical entries with the name of my samba-mounted volume from another machine. I also marvel that after all these years Apple doesn't…
