Apple iTunes 7.7 (Mac OS X)

No improvements?

It seems that every "update" to iTunes includes more store-like features but no actual improvements to the music experience. iTunes is an extension of the Apple.com store and is one big-honking piece of bloatware. I'd love to dump iTunes for something more streamlined (SongBird isn't ready for primetime yet). [alert admin]

Transmission 1.21 (Mac OS X)

Will not open torrent

When I click on a .torrent it looks like Transmission tries to open but I essentially get a blink of an icon on the Dock. Transmission will not open when I double click a .torrent. I can, however, manually open Transmission and it'll download my torrents. I deleted all .plist and preferences (via App Zapper) with no change. Also reinstalled 1.21 and still no go. [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 2.0b1 (Mac OS X)

Sweet!

Installed and played with VMWare Fusion 2.0b1 and love the way it works with spaces. I now have Fusion running full screen in one space and OS X in another space and (with Warp or shortcuts) I can seamlessly swap between the two. Perfect. [alert admin]

CoverSutra 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Growl support?

I know it has support for Growl, but it doesn't use Growl notifications. Even with that "use growl" selected I get the CoverSutra notification which is nice but I want uniformity. Other than that, CoverSutra ROX (and I got it as part of MacHeist)! [alert admin]

Transmission 1.03 (Mac OS X)

Nearly perfect

Love Transmission and have nothing but good things to say about it. I do have one question: why does the screenshot here show the old (nicer) style buttons? I'd love to be able to change the toolbar button-styles. [alert admin]

NeoOffice 2.2.2 patch 8 (Mac OS X)

Great product!

Love NeoOffice and have one suggestion: break up the single 350MB application into smaller applications. I have no need for one gigantic app that can do documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings to load at once. I only do one type of thing at a time. Break them apart ala OpenOffice's apps and optimize them. [alert admin]

GameRanger 4.6.7 (Mac OS X)

Good and betting better

I've been using Game Ranger for several years now and it works as advertised. Buying Gold or Silver service adds a lot to the games it supports such as voice. Evill (the developer) isn't as responsive as he could be but he does aggressively work issues and resolve them in a timely manner (with one exception). All in all, this is a great program for mac. QuickScale 3.3.1 (Mac OS X)

Leopard Preview does more and is free.

What can this do that Preview (for Leopard) can't? [alert admin]

FrostWire 4.13.3 (Mac OS X)

Replaced Acquisition

As a long time and registered Acquisition user, I found the cost to upgrade to Acquisition 2.x too high so I looked and found FrostWire. It is a clone of LimeWire (obviously) and works great. Other than a funky interface, it's nearly perfect! Thanks and screw Acquisition! [alert admin]

ShapeShifter 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Shapeshifter screwed up everything

I installed Shapeshifter 2.5 (registered) onto my MacPro and rebooted. Then everytime I tried opening ANY PROGRAM that program would fail to open and I'd get a window asking if I want to report the crash. Tossing the Shapeshifter APE in the trash solved my problem. Shapeshifter 2.5 will remain in the trash until this is fixed. [alert admin]

No improvements?

To Brass Hammer: I don't whine all the time, and this wasn't a whine, it was a comment that iTunes has become the MS Word of music (e.g. it does everything but it's slow and has lost focus on it's intended original purpose - to play music). While it does play music well, it is slow, even on my MacPro with 3GB memory. To Gradebuster: Again, this was a comment and not even…

You Misunderstand RW's Market

If you're promoting Freeway then I have to assume you're employed by SoftPress :) Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Try repairing permissions and restarting. I've been using the betas for some time crash-free.

My Default Word Processor Isn't Word

Anyone who's posted comments or reviews on VT knows that they don't seem to be accepted so you resubmit them, only to find two or more comments posted. It's VT's fault there are so many duplicate reviews on here.

poor copy of Transmit

Is it a "poor copy of Transmit" because of the two-pane style which might make it a poor copy of SID or DirectoryOpus (Amiga). I think Transmit is much more advanced/refined, but I really like the look and direction Forklift is going. I found Forklist to be much slower than Transmit, however.

Everyone's going mushy...

Even though Netscape is virtually identical to Firefox, it runs much faster on my online college's web site (webtycho.umuc.edu). No explanation, though at first I thought Netscape had included some optimized javascript engine. To top it all off I used FireFoxy to make it look a little more presentable :)
