Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.1.0 (Mac OS X)

Older than 3/18/08

This version has been available on the Nikon site for about 3 weeks. I know because I delayed purchasing my D3 until Nikon came up with a version of CCP2 that worked under Leopard, and I've had the camera for about 3 weeks. Both the program and the camera work fine for me. Had a discussion in January with a Nikon tech rep who told me that Nikon takes so long to respond to new OSes because "their team goes out and buys a new OS the day the Apple releases it". I suggested that they should participate in Apple's developer program so they would get pre-release copies and could start earlier. He assured me that there was no such program... [alert admin]

Nikon Capture 3.5.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Why?

Why is Nikon releasing NC 3.5.3 when they released NC 4 many months ago? Nikon builds such wonderful cameras. Why are all large Japanese companies so useless with respect to software? FWIW, I include Nikon, Canon, and Epson in this accusation... [alert admin]

BroadbandOptimizer 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Download results

Tested Broadband Optimizer by repeatedly downloading a 13 MB file from Apple Support, under Firebird and Safari, on 500 MHz and Dual 1.25 GHz machines communicating through a shiny new Netgear router on DSL. Results were consistent. Firebird and Safari are virtually identical for download speed. Results after installing BBO were 7% faster than before on each machine. Before and after, the Dual 1.25 was 3% faster than the 500 MHz. Fastest result was 165 KBps, slowest 147 KBps. (Bytes not bits.) 7% improvement for free is good. [alert admin]
