Agenda 4.0 (Mac OS X)
I, too, disliked this program at one time but the developer seems to have reinvented it in a way that I cannot simply write off. The new interface is sophisticated and (even) gorgeous and the features seem to place it squarely as an entry level PIM which the Mac sorely needs. I haven't installed it yet, but based on the extensive screenshots on the developers site it seems to be worth a second look. I'll write more later. [alert admin]

Works but still disappointing...
Everything worked fine for me but I'm still not happy with Office 2008 in general. It runs s-l-o-w on my G4 Powerbook and the lack of real features is very disappointing. There are oodles of user requests that MS has simply ignored over the years and then the have the audacity to pat themselves on the backs about how hard they worked and how they listen to their customers. Corporate double-speak. As one final thorn in my paw they don't allow us to remove the gallery toolbar, essentially making us marketing victims while they 'show off' their overblown new "feature". Overall the programs and features are great, the company and execution are very poor. [alert admin]

Camouflage 1.20 (Mac OS X)
...the ability to show just one app at a time, automatically hiding applications so only one is visible at a time as I switch. Also, it would be super-great if there were an actual button in the menubar to toggle the desktop hiding function rather than the pull down menu which requires two clicks. Otherwise it's a great replacement for the flawless but incompatible MenuStrip which I loved so much. [alert admin]

iCab X 4.0 (Mac OS X)
I've always liked (but never used) iCab. This version is great and I'll consider it seriously as my default browser. Great effort! [alert admin]

Coda 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Coda is an elegant and well-designed program offering web developers a great environment to develop dynamic applications. I especially appreciate the ability to render ExpressionEngine pages directly in the program, real-time without needing to switch to a browser. It's stable and has most of the core features I like to use. That said, it has some serious deficiencies. The most serious is that it chokes on large pages of a few thousand lines. That shouldn't happen in software that prides itself on being the next generation text editor. I can open a 66,000 line file in BBedit, complete with syntax coloring in about 1 second. In Coda, that same file takes about 1 1/2 minutes to open and, once open, scrolling is nearly impossible. This one problem limits it's usefulness for me and makes me keep my BBEdit in the dock. Related to this problem is extremely slow syntax coloring. There is a noticeable delay when loading even small files before syntax coloring is done and this becomes quite annoying after a while. I could become a real Coda fan and even make it my exclusive text editor but it needs open large files in 1 second not 1 1/2 minutes. Inexcusable. [alert admin]

CocoaMySQL 0.7b5 (Mac OS X)
I've used this program on/off for a long time and it's just wonderful. Good, clean interface, reliable and competent. It's a joy to use! Thanks for making it available. [alert admin]

iSpeak It 3.3.3 (Mac OS X)
This does almost what I'm looking to do but I really need to have control over the quality of the output which doesn't seem to exist. I'd also like to be able to perform batch recordings with sftp support, oh, yea and applescript support. [alert admin]

Firefox 2.0.0.10 (Mac OS X)
Firefox is great in some ways and has some compelling features not found in Safari but the UI is SO unbelievably ugly and cheesy looking (ex. form widgets) that it gets in the way of my Mac experience so I don't use it. If you want similar features and the Mac UI experience I suggest Omniweb. While it cost $15 for a license you get advanced features and none of the UI compromises. [alert admin]

It's because the apps are going to be distributed ONLY by Apple. No legit web site will be offering iPhone/Touch apps. That's why.

I honestly can't imagine saying you don't like the tabs. I think the tab implementation is absolutely brilliant and extremely useful. I wish all browsers had such a useful and pleasing tab interface. JMHT.

Thanks for the tips but my problem isn't about the connection dropping during 'long transfers' nor does the software reconnect if I simply leave the window open. In fact, in years of using Transmit connecting to various ftp servers it has NEVER simply reconnected by itself, regardless of what settings I used; hence my original post.

You're missing the point. I said "basic" not some tedious logging in/out just to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen; and I'm not one of those security freaks that wants to lock down my files with blowfish bla, bla, bla... Geeez, does it have to be one extreme or the other. I know how to secure my files but in my post I said BASIC and I meant BASIC. Hurumph!

I agree. Supporting a developer with worthy products is a good reason to buy software. I've purchased many shareware products over the years simply because I wanted to "support" the developer. When it comes to shareware vs. opensource applications what's the difference, really. Both need to eat, both are people, both have bills and both deserve to be rewarded for the time of their lives they donate to making software that we use. Obviously nobody…

I'm on this company's mailing list and they don't send "spam" but do send occasional offers for their products. I'm extremely sensitive to annoying email lists and this isn't one of them. A company has a right to try to sell their products and this guy has a right to be taken off the email list. Nothing I've seen from Mariner suggests anything less than wholesome where their mailing list is concerned.
