TapeDeck 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Extremely limited functionality, overpriced

In a retro kind of way, it's a cool interface. But when you get beyond the look of the app, you quickly realize how limited in function it really is. Compared to something like Audio HIjack Pro, for instance, this app can't even approach the features. Sorry, this is a waste of time. [alert admin]

CraigsList Reader 20.9.3.17 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

This is not Freeware, it is a limited time demo.

I hate deceptive practices and this is a prime example of deception. This is a limited-time demo not a freeware app. So unless you want to pay, stay away from this one. [alert admin]

TestDisk & PhotoRec (OS X) 6.3 (Mac OS X)

Saved the day!

Wow, what can I say but Thank You for this freeware that enabled me to recover 390 valuable photos from an SD card that was mistakenly erased by my Father in law. It is an intimidating program for a non-techie and I'm no techie but blundered my way through the screens. I'm now looking at a folder containing 390 recovered photos. Awesome. Thank you very much. Sticky Notes 1.5b8 (Mac OS X)

What makes this any different than Stickies ?

I must be missing something because this seems to have the same functionality as Stickies which is included in OSX. [alert admin]

Artweaver 0.5.7 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Quite impressive

Someone suggested this to me and I wasn't expecting much. I already use Photoshop and have GIMP. But this blew me away. Very professional and full-featured. Give it a look. [alert admin]

Olympus DSS Player 7.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Podcasting feature is not available in Mac version

Apparently the Podcasting feature described in the manual is not applicable to mac installations of the DSS player plus software. It is a PC only feature. So you cannot subscribe to podcasts and have DSS Player Plus automatically download them. This software has always been crap and this just adds insult to injury. I have no complaints with the DS-40 digital voice recorder but the accompaning software sux and then Olympus has the nerve to charge you $10 to upgrade to Plus. Are you kidding me? Charge me $10 to upgrade to features that aren't even available to me? Rubbish. [alert admin]

Jing 1.6.8006M (Mac OS X)

Wow, this is powerful, easy and awesome

I own Snapz Pro X and have not been happy with it's screen capture capabilities. So I was researching some others including ScreenFlow, Screenium and Jing. Some are relatively expensive, some are reasonably priced but Jing is free. Well, Jing just blows me away. Not only is it PC and Mac capable, it is so easy to use and quick to learn. For doing quick screencasts to share with others, either as a URL, or to embed in a website or blog post, this is just incredible. Check it out. [alert admin]

How does this stack up compared to Snapz Pro X

I own Snapz Pro X from Ambrosia software. Wondering how this compares? [alert admin]

The Print Shop 2.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Problem with iTunes playlists

With this v.2.0.5 and previous version, and iTunes v7.4.1, there seems to be a problem in Print Shop displaying the itunes playlists. I am not seeing my custom playlists at all and the ones that are showing are the default apple playlists like 90's Music, Recently Added, etc. But even those playlists are not accurate and are missing hundreds of titles. Anyone else having this problem. I'm on a 2.16GHz iMac [alert admin]

Firefox 2.0.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Background printing can't be turned off anymore

Used to be able to check a box in Print dialog to ensure that webpage backgrounds would not be printed. That option no longer is available to me with OS 10.4.10. Anyone else seeing this? Really sucks when you have to print a webpage that has a totally black background or some other obnoxious pattern. [alert admin]

evil

So what. You're complaining that the free app Jing, let's you sign up for a free hosting account and that the movies are saved as swf? And what seems to be the problem with that? Hey, here's an idea, if you don't like free, then buy SnapzPro or Screencast.

Alternative freeware application ...

Jing may have a place on your computer, it does on mine, but it is certainly not a replacement for SnapzProX. It has many limitations and does not have anywhere near the overall capabilities that SnapzProX has. I do find Jing useful for very quick and short video screen captures though.

Problem with iTunes playlists

I actually discoverd that the problem was that I had several iTunes playlists and Print Shop was by default selecting the "original" itunes playlist that I had. Simply renamed my preferred playlist folder and problem solved.

v1.2 has problems

To clarify, the volume does not work for my headphones. Using the External Speakers output the volume works normally. But when I have my Telex USB Audio Device (headphones/mic) hooked up and selected, the volume slider has no effect except to turn off completely or full blast.

Nice App - Warning about Privacy

I agree that privacy should be the default, not the other way around. With that as the only fault, I must say that Galerie is a pretty amazing program and it is free. Nice. But I do have some concerns about the privacy aspect of the galleries.

Can't retrieve mail after applying update

No I did not apply any other updates other than the Java update. I restarted 2 or 3 times and rebuild permissions too. I simply didn't work until the next morning then all was fine. REally really bizarre. It might have just been a coincidence but the fact that I had checked my mail successfully right before running software update and installing the java update makes it seem like it was the update that caused…

Can't retrieve mail after applying update

I agree that it doesn't seem to be related to the update but it's actuall6y 4 different mail servers and there is no way that all 4 were down at the same time. Mysteriously however, all mail accounts are working as expected t his morning. Quite strange.
