I admire the author...

...for still developing this software. However, it still remains one of the most inane and useless pieces of crap that I have ever seen for any platform. [alert admin]

GyazMail 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)

IMAP necessary, HTML not.

So far, I'm fairly impressed with the app. There are two things, however, that prevent me from switching to it: lack of both IMAP support and GPG/PGP integration. The second one isn't a feature that most people would care about. The first one, IMAP support, is a necessity in modern e-mail clients as more and more servers begin to support IMAP exclusively (at least at my offices and the ISP's I've recently used.) Finally, please don't pay too much attention to those that wish to have HTML rendering. It breaks the spec. If you do ever implement it, please have it as an option only. There are many, many people that despise HTML in e-mail. The lack of this support is one of the reasons that I like GyazMail. [alert admin]

NoSleep 3.0 build 3 (Mac OS X)

Be Wary

First of all, let me state that this little app works. Now, to the real stuff -- be very, very careful with this application. In short, if you are NOT comfortable compiling and replacing your kernel, are NOT a seasoned UNIX developer or systems administrator, or are NOT comfortable experimenting with your system, then do NOT use this application. For those that do fit one of the above profiles, I would recommend learning to patch and replace the kernel yourself and take the time to explore it and the options available, instead of relying on this application. Finally, please discount mark_ringenoldus' posts regarding the "baked Powerbook". Yes, this kernel modifcation CAN cause damage to your system if it is not handled properly. mark_ringenoldus' posts, however, are regarding something completely different (and in all fairness should be removed.) This modifcation can be quite safe and useful if managed properly. [alert admin]

House Divided 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Sick, twisted, kinda fun.

I like it. The music is what really helps to make it addictive. It's really a rather simple (re: plain) game that there doesn't seem any point in playing, but the concept is so familiar and it's so easy to play that there doesn't seem any point in stopping. [alert admin]

Kung-Log 1.4.5 (Mac OS X)

I cannot rave enough about this program

I have been using Kung-Log ever since I began using Movable Type. The author of this product has consistently provided incredible support, makes regular updates, responds promptly to any issues or questions, and is committed to making this the best 'blog posting tool out there. I use many operating systems, and have yet to find anything on any other OS that matches what Kung-Log accomplishes. An excellent product for any user with a supported 'blog; a must have for any user with a Moveable Type powered 'blog. [alert admin]

Gordon Flash 1.1.8 (Mac OS X)

Inane, redundant, and completely out of line!

I'm having difficulty understanding why the author continues to release this product. Every single new release received heated (and hateful) reviews regarding the foulness of charging for a product that a) others do for free, b) modifies a free, open source product, and c) modifies a product that is still beta. I can easily understand continued work on the product in order to better hone their programming skills, but surely the author must see and read these reviews, otherwise why use VersionTracker in the first place? BlogWorkz 0.2.1 (Mac OS X)

Confusing interface

Confusing interface, though appears to work well enough with the default test blog. Starts out in "demo mode", which is not explained very well. I was not able to successfully get this configured for my own 'blog. It's free, for now -- the lack of an actual usage license leaves a little to be desired. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 4.0 (Mac OS X)

Grand Pajandrum, I…

just gave a listen to "Landslide" as you suggested -- the AAC from the Music Store, an AAC I ripped, an earlier MP3 that I ripped, and the original from the CD. My AAC is not discernably different than the Music Store AAC, and both are better than my MP3. I can only tell the slightest of differences between the AACs and the original, and I would be hard pressed to tell you which was an AAC and which was an original in a blind test. I also think of myself as having excellent hearing, and there are noticeable differences to me between a 192-bit VBR MP3 and an original. I can't hear any of the distortions that you're talking about at all. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 4.0 (Mac OS X)

Love the new…

product, and the Music Store is great. The prices are in-line with what I would have expected to pay, and $1 per track is not unreasonable in the least. The copy protection of AAC does not get in the way and is very easy to manage (nearly invisible), and Music Store integration is seamless. The few times I've downloaded music from Napster/Gnutella type services was for preview purposes, as I could never fully trust that others would encode the music to the quality that I would like. So far, I have had absolutely no issues with the quality of the AAC files. As long as the Music Store maintains a decent catalog, I anticipate all of my music purchases will be online from now on.
