Apple Backup 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Not Smart About Locating Files
The QuickPicks included with Backup 3 are not able to locate any files stored outside of your Home folder. So, for example, if you store your iTunes music and iPhoto pictures on another hard drive, you won't be able to use these QuickPicks to backup those files. [alert admin]

Speed Download 3.0.9 (Mac OS X)

This is a very useful download managing tool. When I upgraded to Tiger, I had a problem with using the program with Rendezvous (now called Bonjour), the support I received from the developer was superb. Speed Download is now working fine with my setup. [alert admin]

Health Tracker X 3.0b2 (Mac OS X)
I purchased version 2 of this software as it did the basic thing (albeit very clumsily) of keeping track of my blood pressure. I had hoped version 3 would be a significant upgrade but instead it's quite disappointing, it lacks a clean interface, and it even removes features (what few there are) from the earlier version (such as a graph that overlaps the different measurements). A nice compact program, easy to use and customize. The import feature works quite well with CSV files. I also like how you're able to access your data file on an iDisk between 2 or more Macs. I've tried a few programs like this, but Safe Place was the best choice for my needs. [alert admin]

DEVONagent 1.6 (Mac OS X)
I use DEVONagent more and more as my main browser and search engine. The interface has really improved over previous versions, and also the speed of searching (using the new Fast Scan) is much better. As you play around with the search settings, the program's usefulness at honing in on pertinent information (and filtering out the junk) is quite apparent. [alert admin]

YourSQL 1.7.0b9 (Mac OS X)
Although the downloaded file says YourSQL 1.7.0b9, it's actually an old build (1.7.0 beta 5). [alert admin]

MacJournal 3.0b2 (Mac OS X)

I won't bother to download this bastardized version of $MacJournal$ but I can't help myself from giving it poor marks. MacJournal represented a bright spot in the Mac Freeware category. It had a loyal following, many users, including myself, helped the developer find bugs, suggest ideas and improve the software along the way. In turn, he commercialized the software and, I'm sure, has alienated quite a few people. I'm sorry but this reeks of a sellout and there's no way to hide the fact. Sure, the developer should make money for his skills. But what about the idea of writing software for the love of doing so, not for profit, but for the benefit of the Mac platform? Why not develop another program with the goal of making money in mind, instead of re-purposing an existing one that's been free from the very start? It sets a bad precedence. It's a bad move. It will no longer stay on my computer. [alert admin]

Sorry, I didn't know there was a Beholder Lite version available. Since I can't go back and change my ratings, I will do it here. [alert admin]

It does more than check to see if you have more than one copy running at the same time. As the initial review stated, the application phones home every time you use the program (not just at launch, but also on each synch you perform). It does this by running a hidden application, the user doesn't know about, and this background application contines to run after you quite Synchronize Pro. So, yes, users beware...
