Transmission 1.04 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Transmission since the beginning, because I've always been searching for something that did the same (or well, that had a lot of options) Azureus did but without eating all my CPU. From the time Transmission started to properly handle files with weird characters in it and had the possibility of choosing which files to download and which not I was finally able to trash Azureus for once and for all. I still haven't used the latest release very much, but I haven't had any crashes so far (I'm on a Tigerized 800 mhz iMac). It connects to peers fine and download speeds look great. The only annoying thing I noticed is that sometimes, when I open the program, it starts to check the open torrents even if I had previously quit without problems... This can be fairly frustrating when you have for example an 8 GB torrent in it and the program spends over 10 minutes checking it... Especially if you'd quit without crashes and all. Anyway, apart from that, everything fine. [alert admin]

Snak 5.3.3 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Snak for years, and I'm glad to see it's still getting better and better! I used to have a license and I was thinking to get a new one, so I went to the website and found out about the pledge to kiva.org. What to say... Great! I felt even more motivated to send the money, since it would be used to help those people. I totally appreciate their support to Kiva and I wish more developers would do such things! The only thing I really would like to see is the possibility to have a DCC transfer window open "in the background", like a private message (basically, without making it the active window). Apart from this, I'm completely satisfied with the program. By the way, the support is also very good. I remember sending info on a bug to the developer: he replied and said he'd work on it, and in the following Snak version I found the bugs had been fixed. I did try other IRC clients, but Snak is still the best by far! [alert admin]

FontDoctor X 7.3.1 (Mac OS X)
I thought this would *fix* problems... ![]()

I checked my fonts with FontBook and I found that many of them, though they worked, had validation issues. So I thought I'd search for a program to try and repair them and I dowloaded this. The program ran fine: it checked fonts, found problems and fixed them. It found problems in fonts that FontBook hadn't apparently noticed, but on the other side it didn't find any problems in the ones FontBook had pointed as bad. After everything was done, I opened FontBook and found out that my fonts had suddenly decreased........ Now half of my user fonts (60+) DON'T work anymore though they appear as "installed". They don't even show up in FontBook!!! I guess now I'll have to check which fonts have been modified by FontDoctor and replace them with the ones from a recent backup (which I luckily have...).. Mind, I'm *not* saying this program is rubbish. It does have some positive reviews, so I guess it's just a matter of luck and/or what kind of fonts you have installed. Just to be sure, I'd suggest you to do a backup of your fonts, so that you can revert to it in case the program screws something up. :( [alert admin]

Data Rescue II 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I've known Data Rescue for years, and it saved my life twice... The first time was 4 years ago, when my internal HD died. I spent months trying to extract stuff from it, with no luck obviously. Then I tried Data Rescue.. and it managed to extract almost all of my files! And again, last January my portable firewire HD died. Actually, I couldn't extract anything from it because it was super-dead, but I had a recent backup.. from which I'd accidentally deleted many important folders! I used Data Rescue to recover the deleted files, and it found *everything*!!! Only [very] small complaint is that the files weren't in their original directories and didn't have their names, but at least I had them! And anyway, it apparently recovers the files in the "order" it finds them, so actually they were in their original directory order... A bit more complicate with images, since they're sorted by size, but oh well. I totally suggest this application, it's a real lifesaver!!! :D [alert admin]

Transmission 0.72 (Mac OS X)
I'm using a G4 PPC iMac and D-Link DSL-G624T router (via wi-fi), and I'm experiencing the same problem as the other used who pointed it out :( When you start Transmission the port is both open and successfully mapped, but then when you open a torrent the button just goes red and the program is barely able to connect to peers.. I've used Transmission so far without a problem, it's my favorite BT client, I hope you can do something about this.. I'll still be using version 0.70, since that works fine, but I'd like to download the future updates as well.. :( PS: Like other people, I'm also waiting for Transmission to be able to download single files from a torrent like Azureus.. That would make it the ultimate BT client for Mac :) [alert admin]

Monolingual 1.3.7 (Mac OS X)
Believe the bad reviews, DO NOT USE this program!!! ![]()

I was too optimistic. I downloaded the program, and despite having read the other reviews I tried it... (I thought it was just a problem of Intel processors, which I don't have) And now I'll have to REINSTALL TIGER.
I'm so angry that I purposedly registered on VersionTracker just to write this review, and this means a lot I believe...
This is how things went for me:
I read the reviews and the ReadMe file, so I excluded all of the Adobe and Office folders, believing that doing so would prevent me from getting the same damage that some reviewers got.
I begun by only removing a few languages, just to try it out. The most prominent one was Arabic, others were all minor ones (like Afrikaans and Armenian). I didn't remove any architecture or input source.
Apparently everything went fine, until I clicked on a document's name to rename it and the Finder hung up... I got scared, and remembering what I read on the other reviews I tried to open Photoshop and Office. They DID NOT start up...... and I knew my system was f___ed.
As I said, I EXCLUDED the Adobe and Office folders, but apparently this did not stop the program from messing up my whole system.... I totally agree with the reviewer that said it's similar to A VIRUS.
DON'T USE THIS PROGRAM!! BELIEVE THE REVIEWS!!
The developer should just TAKE IT DOWN, at least until these deadly bugs are cleared..... [alert admin]
