MaxBulk Mailer 6.5 (Mac OS X)

6.5 NO LONGER crashes for me; I'm happy

I didn't just comment my original post since I thought the fix should be more up front. 6.5 runs fine for me now that the developer made one small fix affecting Power PC machines like mine. The version number hasn't changed, but current downloads have the fix. Developer Stan responded to my query in about 10 minutes. I think that's fast enough. [alert admin]

MaxBulk Mailer 6.5 (Mac OS X)

6.5 crashes for me

I like this program a lot. Have not had trouble with it in about 9 months use. But the 6.5 version will not run on my Tibook under OSX4.11. It's crashed about 9 times and not done any work. I trashed the MaxBulk folder in prefs. Repaired permissions. Restarted. The program either crashes on opening or crashes when I try to open a mailer file from the previous version. Temporarily I'm back to using version 6.2. Tonight I previously installed the security update for Tiger G4. Perhaps there's a conflict. I'll watch here for tips or news. [alert admin]

Duplicate Files Searcher 1.9 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Requested feature...

I have a half-ton of duplicate files in my client files - including graphics used in multiple places. If there are, say, 18 copies of one logo, I'd like to be able to mark 2 or 3 for keeping AND replace the others with ALIASES to one of the kept copies. Happy holidays [alert admin]

RapidWeaver 3.6 (Mac OS X)

Says OSX.3.9, doesn't mean it

Downloaded 3.6. Wouldn't launch. Visited developer's website. Says there it's for OSX.4.6(or something). Not 3.9. [alert admin]

FontDoctor 7.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Works for me

When I upgraded today to 7.1, I needed my serial number. Not to be found. Probably lost in a Entourage database crash a while back. I wrote Morrison. They sent one in less than two hours. With early versions, and my inexperience, Font Doctor a few years back was erratic. Now I use it whenever I need to troubleshoot questionable fonts, and I find it stable and useful. [alert admin]

InEffects 1.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Solid, reliable - and useful

I've been missing InEffects ever since I moved up to IDCS2. Won't debate the outer glow, but for what I use it - mostly to separate type a little from an underlying image - it works fine. This update is most welcome. The next issue of our magazine will look better because of it. [alert admin]

An unusual update?

A 98mb download. Double-click the file and find Acro Pro 7.0.0. Click OK. The update takes about 3 seconds. Says it's done. Command I on the app still shows 7.0.0 with a mod date in Dec04. Open the app. About Acrobat shows 7.0.1. On we go... [alert admin]

PatternMaker and PatternPack 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Works for me...

Mac OSX.3.6. IDCS. I'm not completely impartial, since I've had an e-mail back and forth with Teacup, but I can objectively report that I used it for a project. Found it solid, flexible, clear and fun. The file printed accurately to both my PostScript laser and iP4000 inkjet. The PDF from IDCS preflighted in Acrobat Pro 6 with a green light - no problems - using a press profile. [alert admin]

FontDoctor 6.0.1 (Mac OS X)

A useful, limited tool

The combination of Suitcase X1 and Font Doctor has made my font collection basically healthy. Font Doc finds some bad fonts; fixes a few. Suitcase finds other bad fonts; fixes a few. I don't like Font Doc for organizing fonts, because the resulting collection is organized in a way that only a machine could find useful (too many folders, arbitrarily organized). I tried it and quickly trashed the results. But as a limited tool for dealing with some font problems I'm glad I have it and I use it. [alert admin]

Postbox? Promising...but

My main concern about Postbox is that it is slow. My running a 667 TiBook on OSX4.11 has something to do with that. But it's still slower than Entourage or Mail. Especially when the messages in a thread are gathered together behind a triangle dingbat. Deleting such a thread can take 40-60 seconds. I like being able to assign a To Do icon. Able to assign a Topic color. Although I wish I could make…
