HandBrake 0.9.4 (Mac OS X)

Handbrake and MetaX

Has anyone else noticed that if you transcode with Handbrake 0.9.4 and then use MetaX to add meta data the resulting m4p file won't play? :-( [alert admin]

SOHO Notes 8.07 (Mac OS X)

Chronos Support MIA?

Has anyone else noticed that Chronos Support seems to be Missing In Action? I've been trying to get a response since October 2 and have only automated responses to show for it. Has anyone had an actual response since the beginning of October? [alert admin]

Wireshark 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Getting Wireshark running on Snow Leopard

If you've tried and failed to get Wireshark running on Snow Leopard here's the trick:
(Thanks to Michael Gracie and JOSTEIN)

Insure that X11 is installed on your Mac. It can be found on the Snow Leopard Installer DVD.

Read and follow the instructions in the Wireshark "Read Me" file. (Believe it or not this is an important step)

THEN

In the Terminal execute the following command:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/StartupItems/ChmodBPF

(you did follow the instructions in the "Read Me" first, right?)

Launch Wireshark (This may take some time the first time you launch it)
Select the "Preferences" item from Wireshark's "Edit" menu.

When the preferences window opens you will need to drag it to the right in order to access the sidebar.
Select "Name Resolution" from the sidebar and click the "Edit" button beside "SMI (MIB and PIB paths)"
Click the "New" button and type "/usr/share/snmp/mibs/" (don't include the quotes) in the text field.
Click "Apply" and "OK" at each window until you're back to the main Wireshark window.
Quit Wireshark and restart your computer.

Happy sniffing! [alert admin]

FilePathCM 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Is Limit Point Software Gone???

FilePathCM is a great tool that I have come to rely on (working is a very Windows centric environment). Unfortunately the CM is broken in Snow Leopard. I tried going to Limit Point's website this morning only to find a 410 - Gone error. Does anyone know if Limit Point has gone under? Sad, if true. [alert admin]

Delicious Library 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

An excellent update to a great product

Like Makosuke I've been using Delicious Library since Version 1.0. In all that time my biggest complaint has been the introduction of the horizontal details pain <- notice intended pun ;-) I have hundreds of movies and albums and well over a thousand books cataloged so far and the application launches quickly and has been very stable. On top of this I can now sync with my iPhone. Two thumbs up! I dropped one star in "Support / Documentation" due to the lack of online help but you really don't need it as the application is pretty intuitive. [alert admin]

MacFamilyTree 5.2b7 (Mac OS X)

Wrong URL

The current (as of 8:45 MDT June 13, 2008) Version Tracker URL is still pointing at beta 6. Here's the correct URL: http://www.synium.de/doc/MacFamilyTree%205.2%20Beta%207.dmg [alert admin]

We get it, already!

I can only assume that the software list will be crammed with 50 (or more if they company decides to post data for non-US locations) items which are essentailly the same thing. This qualifies for the first SPAMMING of VersionTracker that I've seen. I feel it would be more appropriate to have ONE entry for "MacElevation" and link to a list at the developer's site. Dantz Retrospect client 6.1.130 (Mac OS X)

Broken on Intel OS X Server

Well, after installing the version that is supposed to work around the ACL issue (6.1.131) I've come to the conclusion that Retrospect does NOT work on OS X 10.4.8 SERVER on Intel hardware. Version 6.1.131 works fine (at least in initial testing - it installed, I created scripts, let them run, and then restored files from them) on the CLIENT version of OS X 10.4.8 on Intel hardware. When the SERVER version of OS X 10.4.8 is installed Retrospect dies as soon as it tries to write the backup. [alert admin]

IPhoto 8.0 and updates

I must agree with the previous two comments. With only 512MB of RAM what do you expect? iPhoto 8 with well over 10K photos preforms very well on my iMac with 4GB. It's not perfect but it's certainly worth more than one star. I'd give it 4 ****.

And??????

So, you read and understood the documentation prior to posting your comments? This is a CROSS PLATFORM application that will run on Windows, various flavors of Linux and Unix as well as OS X. For the software to run you will need to have X11 installed (it comes on your Mac system discs) as well as the Mono framework which can be freely downloaded at "http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html". The disrespectful thing here is giving a product 1 star without…

Leopard compatibility???

I found the same but was able to work around the problem by dragging the files and/or folders to the PDFLab window rather than using the "Add File" button. Works like a charm. I just finished a single run extracting single pages from about 200 PDF files resulting in over 4000 single page PDFs. Worked flawlessly once I dragged the folder to the window.

Scanner Works

I have found the scanner works just fine, as long as there is a working DNS available. In cases where I scan a LAN without DNS I have had issues with the application crashing and machines showing up as offline even when they are not.

doesnt play WMA files

For some reason the .dmg file downloaded as "macmp3cd.dmg" mounts as "Music Man" and seems to be the Music Man application rather than "macmp3cd". When it doesn't crash it won't quit (I couldn't even kill -9 the sucker)

Won't work in Panther

It will work fine in Panther if you change the permissions on the executable file. In the terminal issue the following command: $ chmod 744 /path_to_application/Ultranium2.app/Contents/MacOS/Ultranium2 That should do it.
