BOINC 5.10.7 (Mac OS X)

Development version vs. recommended version

Note that 5.10.7 is a development version and may be unstable. Berkeley suggests it be used only for testing.

I think it should be made clear on VersionTracker that this is the case, rather than having to go to the BOINC website and click through a couple pages to find this out. Perhaps Berkeley could designate development versions as beta??? [alert admin]

PasswordWallet 4.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Upgrade?

$15 to upgrade a $20 application? Seems more like a repurchase than an upgrade. Even DiskWarrior's ridiculous upgrade fee is only 50% of the purchase price. Charging 75% of the purchase price to "upgrade" seems more like taking advantage of loyal users rather than thanking them for their continued support. PasswordWallet 4 would have to do something pretty stupendous for me to justify the upgrade. I've yet to read anything to suggest that it does. [alert admin]

ChemicalBurn 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Nice, but...

...it froze and I could not unlock the screen saver, forcing a hard shut down. Too bad, because ChemicalBurn is kinda cool. [alert admin]

AppDelete 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Where have you been all these OS X years?

New user, but so far I am impressed! Only wish I had it years ago to save me from much searching and bloated Library folders. Thank you Reggie! [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)

$30 for an update?

Shipped USPS in the continental US, the cost is $30 for this update. Alsoft allows you to burn an updated DiskWarrior disc for the cost of a blank CD. No thank you Micromat, you've lost a loyal customer. [alert admin]

Keith's iPod Photo Reader 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Works, but not elegant

It does convert .ithmb files to .pict files but the interface and functionality are both minimal. I could not get it to open a folder of .ithmb files, even after renaming the files as specified in the Read Me file so I had to open them individually. But this is still better than losing the pictures altogether. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)

FW Hard Drives Unsupported

I upgraded from v 4.0.5 to 4.1.1 and all of a sudden my external firewire hard drives became "Unsupported Hardware". I reverted back to v 4.0.6 using an updater that I had never installed, lo and behold all of a sudden my ext FW drives became supported again. I basically like TechTool Pro and it has never harmed any of my data or hardware, I just wish Micromat would get on the ball. This seems like a very basic issue that should never have gotten out the door. A suggestion to Micromat would be to enable Finder repair by default when running a suite of tests rather than forcing the user to run it a second time with repair enabled. [alert admin]

Delete????

Go to Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and launch A M. Show All Processes and force quit Typewriter Keyboard. As for pref files, etc... you're on your own. Or you can try the free AppDelete.
