OmniWeb 5.0 beta 7 (Mac OS X)

Features that the free guys lack

Workspaces, preferences by site, different download folders by site, advanced bookmark management, etc.. A browser is far more than just the rendering engine. These things I will pay for. [alert admin]

WeatherMenu 3.6 (Mac OS X)

Works fine in Panther

I've been using it through all the versions of Panther up to 10.3.4 and have had no problems with it. In fact I think it's one of the best weather menu apps out there. [alert admin]

24U SimpleDialog Plug-In 2.7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Pricing is great on multiple seats

espringer: The price difference becomes very substantial if you need multiple seats. Our site would be 50 seats and 24U's licensing worked out to $365 while Troi's to $1995. I have mostly avoided plugins for a organization wide solutions because the pricing has been prohibitive but for a FileMaker Pro 7 rework I should be able to sell my boss on this. With FMP 7's excellent window handling I could build pretty good dialogs but for $365 we're better off with the plugin. [alert admin]

LaunchBar 4.0.beta2 (Mac OS X)

An Excellent App Gets Better

I have to admire the way Obdev is handling adding features to LaunchBar. What could have become a confusing app through feature creep still retains its basic simplicity and ease of use and keeps getting better. Excellent work. [alert admin]

DEVONthink PE 1.7.3 (Mac OS X)

Excellent work in progress

I've been using this for 3 months now with no major difficulties. I think it's important to note, though, that this is a work in progress. The feature set is being expanded regularly and the interface is being improved. Smolka: I wouldn't rate it a '1' because I didn't keep proper backups! All data has the potential for corruption and database files are particularly vulnerable. Perhaps that's why DT has a backup function. [alert admin]

A Better Finder Launcher 1.0b5 (Mac OS X)

Greglawhorn:

You can easily configure what items Launchbar indexes. Check out it's 'Configuration' menu. [alert admin]

Not freeware, Nagware

Call it what it is: Nagware. Every usage pops up a dialog asking for payment to remove the dialog. The solution it self is not bad although similar solutions can be found for free. Further any experienced Filemaker Developer should be able to take one of the free solutions on the net and bring it up to this level with a half days work. [alert admin]

FileMaker Pro Server X 5.5v3 (Mac OS X)

Not the fixes that are needed!

I am a professional Filemaker developer and give high marks to the other members of the FMP family of software but I have very little good to say about the OS X version of server. We had a series of data corruption problems tied to backup scheduling and the occasions we shut down the server. Filemaker Inc has acknowledged the problems but does not seem in any hurry to fix. So while the rest of our office is migrating to OS X our FMP server still sits in OS 9. Fixing language bugs is the least of FMP Server X's problems. [alert admin]
