xdrawchem 1.9.9 (Mac OS X)
Downloaded and installed v 1.9.9 and it fails to run even though the previous version worked. Icon bounces in dock and then disappears. Yes, I have Trolltech QTMac 3.3.5 installed. Any ideas out there? 1.5 GHz 17in G4 Powerbook with 1.5 Gig memory installed, OSX 10.4.3. [alert admin]

Missing Sync for Palm OS 5.0 (Mac OS X)
I immediately coughed up my $25 for the upgrade of this $40 program, even though I paid the $40 only about 3 months ago. Unfortunately the program has cost me a lot more than that, consuming about 2 hours of my time at this point trying to salvage my Palm information. It hangs every time when it gets to the "Synchronizing Mark/Space Events" after asking obtuse questions prior to the sync that require an "allow" or "don't allow" response with no explanation of what you are actually allowing because they've changed a lot of the terminology evidently. I've had to force quit the program at least 3 times and soft reset the Palm (Zire 72s) at least twice. The calendar on my Palm was blank at this point. Of over 300 contacts, only about 20 or so of them were on the Palm. I'm sitting here wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm running OSX 10.4.3, having upgraded the OS yesterday. Oddly, the prior version of Missing Sync was working perfectly. I had this feeling when I was buying the upgrade that I might be breaking something that was working. I wish I could revert to the older MS and get a refund. As with all things Palm-related, use this at your own risk. [alert admin]

DoBeDo 1.6 (Mac OS X)
I bought a Palm Zire 72s a couple of days ago. Had everything working perfectly. Decided to work on putting together a list of tasks so last night and this morning I created a bunch of them in DoBeDo widget. They went into iCal, no problem. So after syncing the Palm and doing some additional work I went to look at my Tasks on the Palm. Only one was there! That's not too good. I immediately assumed it was some combination of the iSync conduit not playing nice with either my Palm or the Missing Sync software that I was using for synchronizing (after all, all the tasks were displayed in iCal). After several hours of fooling around it finally dawned on me that maybe it was this widget. Sure enough, that was the culprit. It turns out that tasks created in DoBeDo will NOT sync to the Palm even though they show up just fine in iCal. I eliminated all the DoBeDo-created to dos and re-created them in iCal. Now everything works just fine (except I miss the widget!). I urge the creators of this very useful widget to correct this issue. Thanks, ChemBob [alert admin]

Widget, The World Watcher 1.0 (Mac OS X)
There are two widget folders on my computer, one in the library of my user folder, the other in the library at the /library/widgets level. Both have widgets in them. Widget, The World Watcher only installed it's folder action on the one in the user folder so I manually attached it via folder actions to the other. It did warn me about the zaptastic when I tested it on the provided website and offered to delete the offending widget from my desktop, which also seems to have worked. With the exception of having to do the manual install on the root level library/widgets folder this works great. ChemBob [alert admin]

iBiz Widget 1.0 (Mac OS X)
This is a great use of widget technology tying to a business app. It took me a few minutes to figure it out (I was up late at a concert last night, let that be my excuse) but once I did I began using it immediately. Highly recommended. My thanks to the IGG for this cool shortcut. ChemBob [alert admin]

iBiz 2.4 (Mac OS X)
I'm amazed at the vitriol among the responses here. I've been using iBiz (formerly iWork) for quite a long time now and have never lost an iota of data or had any significant problems with it. (Computer user since 1979, Macs since 1984). Now I'm able to use it in Tiger via a widget. I think that's really cool. If I could hazard a guess, I suspect 2 possibilities for some of these bellicose attitudes: 1) Trolls, and you know who you are 2) People who have no idea how to even maintain MacOSX and who are probably having problems with other programs too (whether they realize it or not). Having said that, I'm not saying that no one here has a legitimate problem. I am saying that if you have a problem you should contact IGG software because their response has always been rapid and useful to me, and my issues have not been technical problems (not since the earliest releases anyway) but are usually issues of efficient usage, etc). At any rate, it's working great for me and iBiz is all I use for time-tracking and invoicing my consultancy. PS, did I mention how cool the widget is? :-) ChemBob [alert admin]

NoteTaker 1.9.3 (Mac OS X)
All These Incognito Critiques--Pro and Con Strike Me As Odd
I sign everything that I do online as ChemBob, an online name I have used since the very earliest days of AOL, prior to internet usage as we now know it, so to me it is pretty much the same as signing my name. My actual name is Bob Powell and I'm a self-employed consulting scientist. I use NoteTaker to maintain all sorts of information about my projects and to outline reports, design tasks, etc. I also use DevonThink quite heavily, DevonAgent, QuickSilver and a few others to enhance my workflow. I'm constantly trying out the demos of all these types of utility programs. So, anyway, that is me. ChemBob [alert admin]

NoteTaker 1.9.2 (Mac OS X)
I think those who are issuing complaints about NoteTaker having too many features would, frankly, like to see its development slowed down so that the competitors can catch up. I've tried all the other outliners at one time or the other and nothing else comes close. I use NoteTaker every day and have for a couple (at least, not sure how long really) of years. It is an amazing program and is rapidly becoming moreso. I've managed to find good uses for virtually every feature. It NEVER crashes, not since early versions and I usually have it running with 10 to 15 other programs and with a half-dozen notebooks open. When I've had problems with the program it has usually turned out to be my incomplete understanding of a feature and its functionality. The authors have always been nearly immediate with explanations to me. When it was not my misunderstanding the developers have always responded and fixed the issue quickly. To be sure, this is a very deep and sophisticated program when used as such but it can also be used in a very simple manner. It's sort of like math. If all you want to do is a little addition, like 2 + 3 = 5, then you only need the superficial "arithmetic" layer of math. However, if you intend to evaluate the bending of space-time in the vicinity of a pulsar you are going to have to learn quite a bit more math. It's up to you really whether you want to use NoteTaker as a simple outliner and record keeper or delve into all the sophisticated levels of functionality that it can provide you. Anyway, I'm going to download version 1.9.3 and experiment with it now. Enough of this chit-chat. ChemBob [alert admin]

MacJournal 3.0b2 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately Dan has taken this excellent freeware app and decided to market it through Mariner Software for $30. I already have paid for a few others that can pretty much duplicate the functionality here so that is about $15 more than I would be willing to pay. Glad I never put mission critical info in there. Free software going shareware or commercial is so common that I don't depend on any of it. ChemBob [alert admin]

NoteTaker 2003 1.6.6 (Mac OS X)
This product is great! It is the one piece of software I use every day. Updates, until recently, were coming at a very fast rate and I'm guessing that the programmers are taking a little extra time this time to make certain that all bugs (Panther was a radical change) are eliminated. This program is decidedly NOT slow on my 667 G4 Ti PowerBook and I have my notebooks loaded with .pdfs, websites, .jpgs, links to files, etc. Maybe the people having speed issues should try MacJanitor to clean up their caches, etc., run disk utility to repair permissions, and then run prebinding routines to get their unix system underpinnings up to speed. This might help everything for them, not just NoteTaker. --ChemBob [alert admin]

Odd. I've had open invoices and submitted a new invoice and never had any problem. All my totals upon completion of my projects check out fine. I wonder why this happened to you?

I'm replying to my own comment. I don't know what changed, but after about the 5th time trying to sync it finally got through the Mark/Space Events and everything afterward worked. As with so much on the Palm, it almost seemed more like magic than technology. At any rate it worked. I'd tell you why if I knew why but I did nothing different. Now I'll reset my "override handheld" settings to "synchronize" and hope…

Odd, I've had no problem whatsoever and I have regularly run it under various flavors of Tiger. In fact, it saved me when I had a hard drive failure on my PowerBook three days after a full backup to a 160 GB external firewire drive. I appreciate it that they are providing this program to us for free. ChemBob

What is the point of your post? Just to try to display your expertise? Why don't you spend some time discussing NT 1.9.1 and its new features that are, in my book, superlative. ChemBob
