Macromedia Flash 8 8.0 (Mac OS X)

amazingly old

No update since 2005? Does Adobe care about this "old" current version of Flash 8 Pro? Mine just crashed on me after working on something for a while and I lost it--I'm SO over it! Its true, this software runs SO SLOW it feels like a PowerPC--what's up? Grrrrrr...if only Flash software had a competitive market, then maybe I could find something to work with that was faster and more stable... [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

FontAgent Could Be The One

I've been looking for a reliable font manager since OS9 and now I think it might be here. I LOVE the fact that I can have multiple libraries to organize my fonts AND multiple sets for project organizing. Also, it hasn't made my mail fonts get all screwy. I can switch the text easy for previewing, I can even switch colors around. I would do a couple things with the next update. 1. Make it so that fonts are dragable from the preview area to sets. 2. Make illustrator 10 plugin work automatically, i have to save my ai doc every time to make the newly activated fonts appear and/or work. 3. make it so you can drag multiple folders of fonts from the desktop and they will create those same multiple library folders in the library window. Extensis Suitcase 11.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Afraid to upgrade

I"m happy with 11.02. I upgraded to 11.03, and suitcase was rendered useless, not only that, but I was unable to reinstall, I kept getting errors. I had Extensis look into it and they sent me the manual install files for 11.02, which works fine for me. It crashes with any font that is damaged and not every font shows up, but whatever, you can't win them all. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3.2 (Mac OS X)

grrrrr

Dual Ghz G4. Just upgraded to Panther and got all the software updates and now I'm frustrated. I conveniently forgot the phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" My computer was working perfectly in Jaguar! I bought into the idea of expose (very cool), as well as the fax and font book (find them to be unsophisticated for my needs and therefore useless) Mail quits with html messages. Also, Sherlock & Safari quit as soon as I start using them and are totally useless. I guess I should downgrade, but that is just such a pain! Apple, fix it YO! I like expose a lot, this is an amazing feature! Also, I like the way that the finder windows are redesigned. [alert admin]

I have a…

high speed connection and haven't noticed that much of a performance difference using SD. So, I uninstalled it. When I uninstalled SD, it didn't change my helper apps in my IE prefs. I could do it manually, but have chosen to reinstall stuffit expander to reset those prefs. [alert admin]

Honestly, this is…

one of the selling features for me that eventually got me into the Mac store to buy Jaguar (and inevitably to buy my 5th Mac in 18 yrs!) After so many people mentioning "mail" to me, I figured Apple had this one all sorted out. Therefore, I spent the time importing all my old mail, getting the address thing all worked out, etc.. Come to realize that there is a problem sending jpegs and documents to certain mail apps, specifically AOL users see only an unopenable "mime" attachment for jpegs & word docs. I have found that gifs send ok. I'll continue to use Mail, but have to sign on to an AOL account to send attachments aol'ers and pc'ers can view. This application is genious beyond that, but, the attachment issue is disappointing enough for me to give the application a "4." Hey Apple, don't mime it, fix it! Peace-C [alert admin]

Apple Inkwell 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

  This tool…

is such a nice surprise from Apple!! The handwriting to text component is effective and I'm sure it will come in handy in ways I haven't even thought of. I've found that I don't have to be that precise with how I pen my letters, it just won't recognize scribbles or cursive. The COOLIEST ASPECT (as an artist) is the sketchpad component. Although it seems like a low tech program, there is something really sophisticated and beautiful about the brush stroke fade from black to grey to white according to the pressure of the pen on the tablet (verses usual thick to thin pressure fade.) The natural almost pencil-like fade of the brush allows for dimension to be added to sketches. The black/white spectrum is definately satisfying, but, it would be nice to have color options in the pressure gradient. The textured eraser is a little weird (erase by turning your pen over) --it uses a larger brush and a strange choppy texture. There is no changing the brush size, textures and you can't undo brush strokes (of course you can undo text placed into other apps); allowing "command z" would be a nice update to inkwell. I love how easy it is to "send" my sketches to emails I'm writing. Once the cursor is placed where I want in the body of the email, I press "send" and my ink sketch appears in the email. The only thing is that it places it in tiff format, which means its bulky and not all email applications can read it, it would have to be viewed in a separate application. It would be nice if it was a smart enough application to automatically convert to jpeg when you send it to the mail application. Furthermore, I'm noticing tonight that if I draw something big, and then collapse the window and reopen it later, the application hangs a minute with the spinning disk thing. But, for what it is, "a quick sketch application," it is great, hence the 5 stars. Thanks Apple!! [alert admin]
