VersionTracker Pro 4.5 (Mac OS X)

Wrong permissions

Just an FYI that the VTPro betas are installing with the wrong permissions (UID 502), which many consider a security issue (cf. Microsoft Office:Mac 2008 installer concerns). [alert admin]

To Do 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Works great, but...

I'd really like to be able to <b>see</b> the due dates for each to do item. [alert admin]

Font Book Helper 1.0 (Mac OS X)

nice...

Simply put, this 'helper' does exactly what it sets out to do, it helps to visually identify and differentiate PostScript Type 1 fonts from suitcases. Mark's Apple Discussions posting (referenced from the product page) is also a worthwhile read for anyone that used a non-Mac file server (and especially if you used DAVE previously) and is upgrading from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X. Plucker Viewer 1.6.1 (Palm OS)

Plucker Viewer

If you want the latest release, just download the Windows .prc file stand-alone (currently v.1.6.2; released 1/10/04) instead of waiting for other platform distributions to catch up. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2004 R2 13.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Inability to manually clear transactions

The R2 software introduces a new bug that prevents manually reconciling accounts (e.g., manually clearing transactions in the register window). Intuit is aware of the problem and suggests contacting their phone support at 800-811-8766 (M-F 5am to 5pm PST), as this is an issue the support engineers are aware of, there should be no charge for the support call. address-o-sync 1.0 (Mac OS X)

it works

Finally, a way to synchronize select address book groups between my wife's and my own Address Books! I wish that Apple had built this capability into Address Book natively, but until then... this is a workable solution. [alert admin]

Sync Entourage-Address Book [Panther] 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Essential software

I've come to depend on Sync Entourage-Address Book for keeping everything in order. Paul has put together a great utility and his support is outstanding. I experieced an odd problem and sent a query to Paul about it. Within 48 hours we had figured out what was happening (some of my Entourage groups had bogus entries), fixed the problem on my end, and Paul also released an update (2.0.3) that would workaround this issue if it ever came up again. Great product, great price, great support! [alert admin]

Sync Entourage-Address Book (Jaguar) 1.2.11 (Mac OS X)

Indispensable

If your preferred email client is Entourage then you owe it to yourself to download this. Any criticisms of Sync Entourage-Address Book should be taken with the understanding that this utility is bound by limitations inherent to Entourage, Address Book and AppleScript. It does exactly what it claims to do and does it well. The author is also very responsive to bug reports and suggestions. There is definitely the hope that this software will no longer be necessary with future versions of Microsoft Office, but until then it is an essential productivity tool. [alert admin]

Apple includes this for free in OS X

The scripts that Apple provides are designed for a one-way, one-time transfer of information out of Entourage (or other email clients) and into Apple Mail. They do nothing to allow you to move that information back into Entourage, let also maintain synchronized address books.

Fax Server?

Page Sender supports Mac OS X 10.2.x printer sharing to allow this type of function. You have to install Page Sender on each computer to get the front-end for addressing the fax, but it works as a fax server with the following limitations: you can't send to >20 recipients at once, you can't add attachments to a fax (you must fax each document independently), fax status information is only available on the Mac that…
