Pleinpot 1.7.2 (Mac OS X)
i like pleinpot for drag-and-drop ease of use. i can show off my QTVRs as fullscreen panos and customise it to my needs. it also doesn't break the bank, and provides a good companion to stitcher for QTVR work. nice to see a response from the developer for the eolas patent issue affecting IE7 - i will be updating my code with this tool. ATI Displays 4.4 (Mac OS X)
make life easier by using the 'repair disk permissions' function in disk utility before installing. i always do this before installing any 'under the hood' s/w, and it normally means an easier install process. have installed this on both a OEM card on a G5 and on a PCI Radeon in a B&W. nice to have the controls on both ... although i'm not noticing any particular performance gains. KDX 1.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
... and the private communities online which are well-served by such an app. believe me, i don't like the gui, but i can skin it. it took me months to concede that to myself, and since then i've been very happy with KDX. it's not an app for aesthetes i LOVE the way i can use it as a VNC app, can voicechat to mates in far off parts of the globe, and i can securely fileshare with all my packets encyrpted. i ADORE the way you can generate a catalog of the server, onsite or remotely; and the search facility is faster and more robust than carracho or HL clones. it's utterly platform-agnostic (in case you have family or friends who unfortunately belong to the 95% of the world without macs - poor souls!) and it's very very stable. it'll run happily on even very low spec machines. it seems like a very well-written, albeit quirky app. Developers can only specialise in so much, i think that as a one-man operation he's done pretty damn well, and i give him props and do recommend this app. if you ever have to try and share a file with your mom on the other side of the world easily, get her to use KDX :) one point off for GUI issues though - as it's not written to apply to any mac os GUI rules, it doesn't play with exposé. i can live with skinning the app, but i'd love it to work with exposé. Entourage Email Archive X 1.7 (Mac OS X)
i have used this product since it appeared for OS 9 several years ago. it has been refined and improved greatly since then, and i now find it is a convenient way of backing up all my old emails, including the folder structure (which is very important to me). i may not use it much in the future as i may migrate to Mail when 10.3 comes out, but at least i'll have piece of mind that all my mails are archived successfully. grazie!
