Integrity 1.6.2 (Mac OS X)

Just tested on my entire website

I have 20 distinct pages on my website all with as many as 200 links per page. If I do it a page at a time, it will test each without complaint, and won't crash. If I try to test with more depth, that's when it crashes. What really amazes me is the speed of the software. It navigated 200 remote links in under a minute! No delays running from a remote website to test my own, and very few false positives. If it crashes on a single page, maybe it has Flash, or some non-HTML standard plugins added. With straight HTML it is happy as a clam. [alert admin]

smcFanControl 1.23 (Mac OS X)

Don't use this utility

I am not ever going to use this utility unless it gets an official sanction from Apple directly. The SMC Firmware being what it is, an upgradeable component only by Apple, and the fans being something that are preprogrammed to respond to Apple's Energy Saver settings as well as processor use, I would not want to be the one forcing the fans to work when they aren't supposed to, or forcing them not to work when they are supposed to. If the latter were to happen, my machine might experience a random shutdown if I'm lucky, and if I'm not, it could overheat everything around it. Much better is find some external means of cooling your machine such as a solid metal cookie tray or external USB powered fan pad, or notebook stand. [alert admin]

AppTracker 3.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Software no longer at Developer page

I looked all over the Developer page, and this software is gone. Someone in Apple Discussions needed something like this, and eventually this software was found as a good alternative, and is free: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25407 [alert admin]

Battorox 1.8 (Mac OS X)

Great software with only one real weakness

The battery status doesn't auto-update, and you need to quit and reopen the program to check the latest status. Also the developer's website doesn't give an e-mail address to point this commentary to, so if someone does know their address, please send it to them if they don't respond to my suggestion. One thing it gives which is real useful is the Cycle Count. Apple's http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html says how many cycles to expect from the notebook batteries before they can only be charged 80%. This means I can now monitor what is a cycle count, and make sure I don't over charge the battery. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Mac OS X)

Known issues with Safari Addons - tips for applying update!

Saft and Acid Search both appear to break. Be sure to contact their developers for update. Saft 7.7.1 is reported to solve the problem people have with Saft. If the installer unexpectedly quits in the middle, run the combined update over again http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html Note, my combined updater first reported the update was incomplete and recommended to me to apply it over again. Even if your update does not, it is recommended if the update does not finish. And if you didn't apply the March Security update, apply it since that will fix many a Safari crash with Java. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate2005003client.html In addition, you should know these tips before applying any update on an Apple: http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html All went well on an iMac G5 1.7 Ghz with 2 GB of RAM and 37 GB free hard disk space. Don't use this utility

That 180 degrees F is not abnormal for notebooks to have. However, power supply issues are not unheard of because users don't know how to take care of their power cords. For that I've written a guide http://www.macmaps.com/frayguide.html There are cases where the battery might overheat, and there is an exchange program for that. But if the battery and power supply are good the only reason to be concerned…
