MacSpirographic 2.7 (Mac OS X)
don't know about the whining here -- this little gem works great, and entertains my 3 rd old endlessly on animation. Fabulous! [alert admin]

I've used one other tool, WebDesktop, I think -- which has some great features but this one stores the URLs, and works well. Had to learn to place the screen saver in the user's library folder, not the system library for it to function. must have missed that in the readme. [alert admin]

CrushFTP 3.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Wow -- this is a fine package. Setup was not difficult and stability using Transmit has been terrific on 10.3.3. Combine this with Complete Apache2, PHP and mySQL, and serving is much less of a chore. [alert admin]

Google Toolbar 2.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
This was installed on a friend's system -- fubar'd their explorer so badly, and no way to uninstall the crap. Can't even get a downloadable executable to use for uninstalls. Stay FAR FAR away from this kind of 'tool'. [alert admin]

Synchronize! Pro X 3.3 (Mac OS X)
This package is almost all I need for backups... but what I'd really dig to through Dantz in the trash is to sync over FTP. Hell, I'd pay all over again just for that feature. [alert admin]

For all of you complaining about instabilities in the OS releases, do note that sometimes it is RAM that's the issue, not just the OS rev. We've found many cases where RAM would function in OS 9 but not OS X (any 10 release) on iMacs, G3s and G4s. Often, we see there 10.2 would install, but no updater would -- until the RAM was replaced, then the machine was fine with the updater. We have bondi blue imac 233 running 10.2.6 just fine, but can't accept 10.2.8 (I'm not interested in replacing the DIMMs -- so will never worry about moving up on that machine). So do some exploring -- RAM is programmed at the manufacturer, and their version of firmware/eprom can make for compatibility issues if not done right. [alert admin]

Dantz Retrospect 6.0 (Mac OS X)
Am also disappointed with the press release on VT -- higher standards, please. But the whiners here should realize that the problem *may* be you! We have users on 10.2.8 and 10.1.5 with no problem using autolaunch. We have users running mixed networks of OS X, OS 9, Win98 and WinXP Pro -- all machines get backed up just fine. I'm not a Dantz employee -- I'm an independent consultant. The problems you describe are likely bad OS installs or other conflicts. Venting here with star ratings to bash Dantz does no one a favor. Think before you type. Yeah, they are arrogant and over-priced, and they've lost sales and good will for charging on the point updates -- stick to the valid complaints. [alert admin]

Works fine if you: realize this is not a complete port, so prefs are in the wrong place... remove and disable Classic scanning components, reprogram it to work for new applications. Still clunky, and haven't tested all the dumb features (fax/email), but the basic scan did work just fine. [alert admin]

eMessage Archiver 4.02 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Am trying this out with fmp 6 and mail/jaguar -- while there are some hiccups with what appear to be odd formating in some digests, this thing is chewing through several thousand older messages. Had it crash once - out of memory error from Filemaker. Not sure if that was from a bad email, or fmp error, but this does seem to have a lot of potential. Thank you! My only big concern is as we move to Panther in a few days (reason for making backup), will this tool work with the applescripts in Panther and the new version of Mail [alert admin]

Epson Stylus Photo 2200 1.63 (Mac OS X)
Don't know about the whiners here, but we used the Epson TCP/IP driver with the epson print server adapter out of the 10.3.2 panther box without issue. Seems to function just fine. [alert admin]
