LaunchBar 3.2.11 (Mac OS X)

If you ever use Windows

I've been a Mac and LaunchBar user for a long time, and I recently got a PC in addition to my Mac. I felt naked without LaunchBar, having to navigate manually through everything, so I developed Rock-It Launcher. If any of you ever find yourself using Windows and you need something with similar functionality, check it out . . . it's free. I plan to add more features to it in the future, but for now it basically does everything that I need it to. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 4.0 (Mac OS X)

For people who…

want to convert their purchased m4p files to mp3: iTunes tries pretty hard to prevent this, because it figures you will do something illegal. I simply wanted to play the music I purchased with a different mp3 player. My thought, at first, was to burn the m4p files to an audio CD and then rip them to mp3 (yes, I know there is some slight quality loss). Anyway, iTunes doesn't recognize my burner, so I figured I would try Toast. Since I have Quicktime 6.2 installed, Toast automatically converted my m4p's to aif's when I added them to the audio CD I was creating. After that, I could simply rescue them from Toast's cache, but it was actually easier to select "Save as Disc Image" under Toast's "file" menu. After that, you're free to encode using whatever program you want from the aif's on the disc image. If someone can figure out a solution that doesn't require commercial software, let me know. Timidity++ 2.11.3r1 (Mac OS X)

Excellent! This is…

easy to use and fast. I just converted a whole bunch of my old MOD's, XM's, S3M's, and IT's. Many of them sound a lot better than I am used to (I've tried tons of MOD players). It's time to go retro . . . you know, the days when Andrew Sega was still Necros. Some of those old MOD's are much better than a lot of the techno out today. [alert admin]

MacReporter 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Anyone having problems…

with certain sites such as Versiontracker and MacFixit often saying "service not responding" even when they are up? I've changed the global plugin preferences, so I'm not sure if it's a specific configuration bug or something else. Didn't happen before version 1.1 [alert admin]

iMsafe 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Easy to use,…

yes. Tried to back up my home directory, and after 2 hours it was not done (takes finder 20 minutes). Not only that, but I noticed I was missing about 800 megs on my HD. I realized that this app was gobbling up HD space in virtual memory (which accounted for my system being slow). Restarted to regain the swap space. Did nothing fancy to cause this except enable permission saving and deletion from destination of non-existant files in source. Have not bothered to try without these settings. [alert admin]

Unuseful

I hate to advertise my own software through comments, but I don't know how to reach the poster of this otherwise. Anyway, if you want the features that you describe, try http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/28361. It's not fully refined, but it does what I want it to do, and you might find it useful. If you want a more polished piece of software, you might want to look at AppRocket.
