myVCR 0.1.1 (Mac OS X)
It's small and simple but it works! Video quality was outstanding, as good as BTV Pro with the same Quicktime-based choices for compressors, data rates, etc. The major downside - you can only preset one program to be recorded at a time. Add more robust programming features and you have a great app! Also, the timer keeps the computer from going to sleep which is OK but how about a wake from sleep function? Nice work! [alert admin]

Mac PVR 1.0 (Mac OS X)
It does what it says it does but I wouldn't expect to burn any of these files to DVD or even VCD. The scheduler is quite robust (even though it doesn't wake from sleep). Using Quicktime Broadcaster, especially with MPEG-4 encoding, you'll be lucky to get 15 frames per second at medium quality and 320 x 240 resoultion. My Powerbook G4 550mhz got less than that. Changing the settings to DV compression actually made it worse, less than 10 frames per second. Quicktime Broadcaster's IP functions seem to take a lot of processor power. Compare this with the freeware myVCR program. It records full quality, 29.9 fps 720x480 DV on my Powerbook perfectly. You can only program one show at a time to be recorded in the scheduler but it's free and it works. The timer also keeps the computer from sleeping while running - it's not elegant but overall better than Mac PVR. [alert admin]

of the best Mac apps in existence. It works, and they fix bugs to make it better! And guess what? THEY DON'T CHARGE FOR MAINTENENCE UPDATES! Hear that, Apple? Connectix? No whining about R & D costs, no gouging, no bundling useless crap with bug fixes and charging for it. Just a FAIR business deal for a product that WORKS! A+++ [alert admin]

Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
highly skeptical of these "positive" reviews. NO ONE could use this software and rate it positively. Do this - log onto Versiontracker OS X. At the top of the list is a PAID AD for VPC. Why? The ad appeared there after this product was BOMBED with negative reviews. Ask yourself why. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE! [alert admin]

Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
an outrageous ripoff! $99 to "upgrade" something that Connectix broke in the first place? This software is an insult to all decent thinking people. It makes my physically naseous. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE! [alert admin]

Connectix Virtual PC 6.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
rip anyone off. My asking price for this piece of crap on Ebay? $20. Actually, maybe that IS a ripoff because it's more than this scamware is worth. Someone chooses to pay $160, that's OK. Plus, I'd imagine the buyer was more interested in the Windows 95 and 98 OS discs than any software from the creeps at Connectix. [alert admin]

Connectix Virtual PC 6.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
believe the hype! Connectix claims you can "run Windows on your Mac". Only if "running Windows" means at unusable, maddeninly slow speeds. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! Even worse, they know it, they admit it, and they charge loyal customers $100 for an "upgrade" that doesn't fix the problem. [alert admin]
