iBackup 6.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I use this application for backups directed to an NAS attached to my AEBS. It was simple to setup and ran perfectly each time. The real proof of any backup is in the restore. This works. [alert admin]

Default Folder X 4.0.1b2 (Mac OS X)
As in the few missing pieces of OSX. After reading the reviews and downloading this application it took maybe five minutes for me to see this belongs on my system. I buy Macs because they make my life better and this app makes my Mac better. What a slick piece of code. As I move about many diverse apps in any routine session my system feels more "polished", I guess I would say. I expected a great deal for the price and the author's description. What really got me to look was the users feedback. Very glad to have spent the money. It also seems to have very slight impact on my G5's overhead. Very cool indeed! [alert admin]

Little Snitch 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I got a KP as the installer finished. I restarted and the new version loaded and everything seems to be ok. I don't want to down rate this app, so I'll wait a few days, maybe some sort of explanation will be offered. I would really dislike not having this security on my Macs. I just wish I could add an asterisk to "Recommend Little Snitch". But it will still have to be Yes. [alert admin]

Intego VirusBarrier X4 10.4.2 (Mac OS X)
I gave up on this earlier version for two reasons. The first was the ridiculous interval between definition updates. New bad ware is released every day. For an application with a premium price to be updated so casually is unacceptable. The second was the incompatibility with SuperDuper. In my opinion SD was the premier back up solution on Tiger. When I would run SD with VirusBarrier installed some sort of leak would cause a disk space loss which failed the back up. This was not just me- this was a know problem. Intego may have sorted this out. But in watching VT updates it appears they still take a dim view of daily updates. What excuse could there be when ClamXav is updated every day? I have a bunch of computers in a mixed environment. I can't afford to have one of my Mac users pass anything along. I purchased a license for a network-centric cross platform product that is updated hourly. That was two years ago and I haven't had a problem since. I realize this isn't cost effective for a home user. But until our community demands and supports a quality product what we have now is probably what we will have tomorrow. That said, ClamXav used with caution is the best setup currently available. [alert admin]

OS X Rootkit Hunter 0.2 (Mac OS X)
This is what a Mac security tool should be. This is one very slick application even a recent cross-over from you -know-where can use. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.9.0b3 (Mac OS X)
It is true, no doubt, that Onyx is a graphical front end for various command line routines. But remembering command lines is not why I crossed over to Apple 8 years ago. I want things to be simpler. When I want to use my computers I want them to be ready for work. I have used Onyx for several years now without any negative experiences. I want my machines to be well maintained and this application has simplified many chores into a few mouse clicks. If I have missed the memo from Apple stating that OS X needs no maintenance then I apologize for my ignorance. But, by being able to call up Photoshop or some other application on my systems without wondering if it will launch allows me to focus on the much more enjoyable tasks to which I intend to perform. Have I tried other applications of this type? Absolutely, and a few had some small but detectable negative effects. Am I certain it was those applications? Lets say that I am certain that those behaviors ceased when I returned to Onyx. So I offer my thanks to Joel Barriere of Titanium Software. This gentleman labors to keep this application current and free. And that is one of the many things that make my commitment to our platform more enjoyable. Now try explaining this to our long suffering brothers and sisters still on Windows. [alert admin]

If you can get this into the hands of our NJ politicians you can probably sell 2000 licenses at about $10k each. [alert admin]

DogWatch 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Contains useful information. Generous of the authors to put this together and distribute as freeware. Anytime we owners- maybe custodian is better in my instance- can learn something about common perils to our friends is of immeasurable value. I hope the authors continue updating and perhaps even solicit info from users. [alert admin]

No reviews? Well, why didn't you write the first?
I agree with your comment. I very rarely post anything negative unless I feel it presents unusual risk. I kind of went over the top bashing NAV. But anything that enhances my user experience will be publicly affirmed. This is something that speaks volumes about the differences between our Mac community and Windows users. You rarely see comments about any applications in the Windows section of VT. I wish…

I was one of "those" people who pre-ordered AppleTV. I was quite disappointed, to say the least. With this update we gain some very useful features, so right now I'm feeling "neutral" about my purchase. I did buy a mini and connected it to a hdtv with wireless keyboard and mouse. Now this would have been better had Apple given us Safari, maybe even Mail, on ATV. Or maybe an…

I second this! Every author has the right to be paid for his efforts. If these folks don't like the risks associated with shareware they should convert MacPilot to a purely commercial product. Speaking for myself, I don't appreciate having my time wasted.

3 updates in less than 2 weeks?
Considering that business level AV software is updated at least daily, in some cases hourly, 3 updates in two weeks for DAT files is totally unacceptable. There are new Windows viruses added daily, and that is a Mac users primary reason for running AV software at this time. I have not tried this particular product in years. At that time they seemed to be competing with Norton to see who could make…

There is a rather small reference to this app being compatible with 10.3.9~10.5. Just don't blink or you'll miss it.

Dear vze26wyc_dotmac, I couldn't help but look back through some of your prior posts. Its fair to say you've had a bit of tough going lately. I had a similar experience some time back. I just happened to discover a few bad sectors on my HD that would cause all sorts of random grief. Have you run any utilities to verify the surface condition of your disk? After my discovery I backed…

You're right. I made that "tired old argument" in an earlier post. But Windows is the reason this crapware exists in the first place.
