iRemove .DS_Store files 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Uniformed developer?

I'm surprised to hear that programmers leave these files in the various folders. That's a new one for me. It sounds as if someone doesn't much about Mac OS X and is apparently annoyed but hasn't done the research as to why Finder creates them. Hopefully, the script can't do much damage. [alert admin]

MAC Universal Barcode Font 8.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Writing Mac and Mac OS X properly would help

It's odd that your company has succeeded in writing various acronyms and other names correctly but failed at Mac and Mac OS X. [alert admin]

Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Still not a proper Mac OS X application

Since Adobe forced many of us to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 through broken functionality in older versions, you'd think that the CS3 would be perfect. It works relatively well and has better functionality, but the simplest of things is still not right. When the application is/should be idle, it takes 3-5 % CPU. A proper application should be using 0 % CPU when it's not actively being used. You'd think after 5+ years waiting for a proper Mac OS X application and the grinding of teeth to get them to provide a an Intel processor-compatible version and the money involved in so many upgrades, they'd do things correctly. Perhaps in CS11, they'll actually do the right thing but since they have the industry handcuffed to their products, I'm not going to hold my breath. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.4.0 (Mac OS X)

Much better than 2.3.1

Overall, things have improved greatly. My trackball works 100 % fine. My keyboard has a problem with the scroll wheel going down the page but not going up the page. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Continues to be impossible to configure keyboard

While version 2.11 was supposed to enhance configuration by added the Revolution mice, it took away the ability to configure keyboards. Version 2.12 has not fixed this problem. Crashing is unfortunate but thankfully, it has not caused a kernel panic yet. It still does not support enhanced resolution of the MX 510, either. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Crashes on keyboard configuration

Version 2.1.1 crashes when attempting to configure a keyboard, as did version 2.1. Trackball and mouse configuration is not affected. Also, keyboard and mouse operation is not affected, though it's confusing how these two updates were released broken. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.6 (Mac OS X)

Problematic, uneven, and dangerous

After just experiencing a lockup of the software for the second time, I have doubts about the survival rate of drives being repaired by it. I was having the volume structure repaired. Analysis on a 160 GB drive took approximately 2 hours. The repair step had been running for another 16 hours when the status changed to "Sorting Data--Please standby" and the application froze. On attempting to re-boot, the drive was no longer able to be booted. It was still usable and I was able to copy information from it but it took another utility to repair the volume structure within 5 minutes time. Also, the company has never listed to my knowledge any way to create a new bootable CD with the latest operating system and application releases. Further, eDrive creation failed on the 160 GB drive for unexplained reasons but the application was also unable to delete it or create the eDrive on an 80 GB drive in the same machine. A submitted problem report for this feature on the 160 GB drive was never really answered but the support database was updated to say that it was answered even though they were supposedly still exploring the situation. VLC media player 0.8.1 (Mac OS X)

Suffering from the jitters

This software has real potential and I have hopes that it will turn out to be quite useful once finalised. The current (0.8.x) versions have the jitters, at least, on my busy system. Both the audio and video stutter. It could be blamed on Apple but I have a reasonably well-equipped system: dual G4/800, 1.5 GB RAM, 160GB UltraATA/133 disk drive. Also, a lot of functionality seems useless or terminally difficult to use. The time doesn't agree with anything else I have. Trying to change chapters seems impossible from the controller dialog. Stepping forward/backward only happens in 10 second increments but doesn't seem to work, if paused. I look forward to future versions. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)

Mouse pointer pauses for several seconds

Since 1.2.0 and 1.2.1, the mouse pointer is paused for several seconds at a time. Version 1.2.1 removed the debug code that was inundating the system.log but did nothing about the pausing. Reverting to v. 1.1.1 seems to have fixed the problem. Odd that it is more compatible with Mac OS X v10.3.3 than the newest version of their software. [alert admin]

Eudora 6.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Strong e-mail client with a mulititude of idiosyncrasies

I've been using Eudora in paid mode since version 4.2. It hasn't changed much. It's still the industrial-strength e-mail client that it always was. I have all of my historical e-mail from 1995 inside its database and it doesn't complain. It also hasn't gotten any better, though. Correct HTML rendering is almost non-existant. I could spend quite a lot of time trying to get the e-mail to look right when other e-mail clients do it right the first time. The excellent support staff had me change internal settings and it got better but it was never right. Live scrolling has been available since Mac OS 8.x and yet, it's never been implemented in Eudora of any version. On the other hand, filtering works really well, although it would be useful to be notified which filter had been activated for the purpose of fine-tuning. While i like the application for everything is does right, I've changed to Mozilla Thunderbird and, even as a beta, it's working better for me. [alert admin]

Long Time Coming

It's easy to understand why Apple gets the latest version of Java late. Sun puts their development behind Windows and Solaris and they and Apple can't cooperate to make Mac OS X even close to a priority.

Free way to catch a virus

I'd say that you are confused. After running the free version for almost 2 years, I've yet to have any viruses. It's a bit annoying to download a virus definition file every day but it's better than ending up with a virus. I know that others are recommended to be better, namely NOD32 and Kaspersky anti-virus, but this works as well as Norton or McAfee.

Help-menu Leads to Beach-Ball of Death

All of my third party software on Leopard is much slower when accessing the Help menu, but it seems as though Firefox and Thunderbird are particularly slow. Of course, I didn't notice the Search item in the menu until Leopard so once again, Apple has done something extra for whatever reason that's hurting third parties and customers. Thanks to Mozilla for keeping up with Firefox.

Qualcomm will discontinue Eudora development in 2007

This is a great move on their part. It will be the first smart development update they've done in years. I had to move away from Eudora after it re-indexed my mail, deleting good e-mails and resurrecting old, deleted e-mails. Anything that they can do to make their product stable will help, but Thunderbird has gained quite a bit on Eudora and certainly beats it on cross-platform compatibility. I receive no more complaints about not…

Skype 1.5.0.79

Version 1.5.0.79 is the current production version without video and 2.0.0.2 is the current beta version with video.

The drawer has apparently been eliminated to save space--everything happens within the list.

Perhaps, if you took time to look at the documentation, you'd have a better experience with the software. It's really not difficult to use.
