GL Golf 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
WORST Golf Game I Have ever seen! ![]()

Now for the mini review: Simply put, I have seen better golf games with better graphics on my son's old Gameboy! The sophomoric graphics, coupled with the annoying music made it impossible for me to play more than 2 holes. The game, as it stands, isn't (IMHO) worth a $5 shareware fee much less $15. My advice: Save your money and invest in Links or Tiger Woods. Better yet, go out and play the real thing :-) Ease of use and Support seemed OK (3 stars) but I am rating the game straight 1s ... MacGPS Pro 4.0.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
This is the slickest GPS program I have ever used - it does what it says it does and does it VERY e=well. Completly flawless upload/download with my Garmin eTrex Vista. Highly Recommended! Only nit is $40.00 is a bit steep for this vertical market shareware - I think $25.00 would be more reasonable but what the heck it is the only game in town :-) [alert admin]

If you are a NetFlix member, and you keep more than 5 or so movies in your Queue, you NEED this app. The ability to drag and drop to reorder your queue alone makes it worth the $10! Being able to SEARCH the NetFlix catalog (new in 1.1) should almost make it unnecessary to even visit the lame-o NetFlix web site :-) Like Chris, I would like to be able to view the NetFlix star rating (maybe in 1.5?) Also I would like to be able to rate movies I have rented via the app as well (especially since Safari and the NetFlix website are not the best of friends) If the DEV can add these features in 1.5, I'll give it a 5 star rating across the board! Calc Thingy 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
For parents who are helping their kids with math - especially at the middle school level where step-by-step proofs are required, Calc Thingy is the ONLY calc app out there (that I know of) that will display step by step proofs. Add to it a true algebraic input and this app is outstanding! [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2004 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I had to see for myself, so I D/L'ed Quicken 2004 and *none* of the outstanding bugs from 2002-2003 are fixed! Amazing. I did, unlike one reviewer, have scrollwheel support within the register, but NOT within splits - using the scroll wheel will take you out of the split and scroll merrily down the register - very annoying! (Although I *guess* that is better than in Quicken 2003, where using a scroll wheel in a split would more often than not cause a unexpected quit!) Let's see, what else? File format is changed and is not compatible with Pocket Quicken, the manual re-entry of investment info, CMD-A does not select all in a field (like all good Mac programs should) - it opens accounts instead (this KB inconsistency has been around since Quicken 1998!). iCal posting of bills due is a very nice feature if I used iCal too bad Intuit did not consider the goodly number of Mac users who use Entourage! Sure you could AppleScript a work-around but I should not have to work that hard! Maybe when Intuit reads all the negative consumer comment they will get off their collective a$$es and allocate developer resources to fixing the long-standing consumer complaints! If only Modeless Software's Liquid Ledger did Checkfree & Electronic banking we would have a serious competitor for Intuit (and maybe that is what Intuit needs!) So, for now, I’ll stick with Quicken 2003 and wait and see what intuit does. IMHO, anyone with Quicken 2002 or 2003 should not bother with Quicken 2004. It will be interesting to see, however, if Intuit will force users to upgrade to Quicken 2004 in order to import their data into TurboTax 20004 (Tax Year 2003) - that would be a VERY dirty trick and I really hope that NO ONE at Intuit is even contemplating doing this! AppleWorks X 6.2.7 (Mac OS X)
cares about Claris Draw (or are you STILL using Classic OS?) Great App - my son uses it all the time for work on his iBook. Personally, I am still a Office : Mac user, but I can hardly wait to see what happens if this App is rev'ed into a real head-to-head app with Office: Mac - then life should get interesting :-) [alert admin]

VueScan 7.6.33 (Mac OS X)
the old UMAX Scanners are so far out of date that no one will support them - sorry (including windows XP!) I pitched my UMAX 1200 over a year ago and got a Epson Perfection 1650 - GREAT Scanner, supported by VuScan and I think you can pick a perfection up for as little at $70.00 in some places.
