Adobe GoLive 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Another cynical attempted robbery by Adobe

I can only presume that this update was released by Adobe in order to squeeze the last drop of blood ie cash from the loyal Golive users that have used this product over the years. As well as excluding the product from the CS3 suite Adobe now expect users to pay €200 for an upgrade that only has 2 discernable new features : the new Adobe unified interface and a couple of positioning tools for css divs. Both are welcome additions but hardly worth the insane upgrade price. This really should be a free upgrade to Golive users but it's really part of the overall plan to "force" people into switching to Dreamweaver. [alert admin]

Billings 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Good Progression

Some good tweaks to an already good application. The interface update gives a lot more space to the client list on the left hand side which is a good thing. However, colour coding, custom icons and filtering via smart folders would be very welcome and I hope they make it into version 3.0 which presumably will be released after "Leopard" is launched. Basic Daylite integration is also welcome and hopefully will be expanded in the next release. A bundle deal of the Daylite Productivity Suite + Billings would be a good idea. [alert admin]

Crashes / Freezes

If you have a small comllection of icons you need to manage this app is great. Unfortunately if your icons number in the thousands instead of the hundreds you will waste a lot of time looking at a spinning beachball. This app has now frozen on me twice in as many days requiring a force quit when trying to import a large library (9000) of png icons. It just doesn't do what is supposed to do. [alert admin]

1Passwd 2.3.8 (Mac OS X)

Can't live without it!

This has quickly become one of the apps that I can't live without. It's such a huge timesaver for people who are heavy internet users and find themselves signing up to lots of different sites, forums, mailing lists. 1Passwd allows you to subscribe instantly and then forget about it and once you return to the site you can login automatically without having to search your email for the subscription mail and then do the whole "I forgot my password" routine. Excellent! [alert admin]

ChatterBlocker 1.1.0 (Mac OS X)

Demo

Well I've used this for an hour because that's as long as the demo lasts. And that is the first bad point. The second is the price, it just isn't worth 20 bucks. For that price I can get a couple of those relaxation CDs or some babbling brook mp3s and those I can put in my car as well. Don't get me wrong this IS a good idea and much needed by a lot of people. I just don't think the pricing is realistic when there are other alternatives available. There's nothing in this app that you couldn't cook up in GarageBand yourself. If this was under 10 dollars it might be more realistic. [alert admin]

GoLive 9 Review: I can no longer create html-formatted emails

It's not really useful to tell people who have been using this software for years to get over it and start using something else. Like a lot of people who have been using Golive for a long time (since version 1.0 of Cyberstudio for me) I'm not about to give up on it yet. Yes it's clear that Adobe will drop it completely after this version but as long as there is a viable version available…

Is it worth the money?

Well yes, you could theoretically do everything this program does with just a pen and paper. However if you need to work for a living the 30 bucks this app costs will be earned back in a couple of hours!
