Dent du Midi 0.9 (Mac OS X)
GarageBand 2 now supports MIDI Import
So it seems Dent du Midi will be superceded by new functionality in GarageBand 2 introduced today as part of iLife '05: "GarageBand 2 can now import MIDI files, the industry standard file format for music songs. That means you can more easily import music from other applications or download music files from the Internet for use in your own songs." http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/ For those of you staying with GarageBand 1.x, Dent du Midi will continue to be there to import MIDI files. Enjoy! [alert admin]

Dent du Midi 0.2 (Mac OS X)
Hi folks, I have heard several reports of problems with version 0.2 of Dent du Midi. I will be looking into these as soon as possible. In the mean time, version 0.1 is still available for download. Sorry for the inconvenience. -Bery [alert admin]

MacMP3Gain 1.5 (Mac OS X)
trying to clarify a a few things. When used across your entire collection, mp3gain will reduce the levels of MP3s that are loud (most commercial, rock/pop) and bring up those that are quiet by modifying the gain value in each frame of the MP3 file. This is a lossless technique that will travel with the MP3 file wherever you use it rather than iTunes' method which only works from within iTunes. If you use a portable MP3 player or a networked player like the AudioTron (as I do), then this helps reduce your trips to the volume control. As for the question of whether this affects audio CDs burned from iTunes, the answer is yes...if mp3gain reduced the level of the MP3, then the resultant CD's level will be lower than the original. MacMP3Gain 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Gain Mode for all my CD rips and am very happy with the results when playing random songs from a variety of albums. mp3gain's algorithm will either "fill" or "subtract" from the gain values in each album to bring them to an optimum level (not necessarily to the maximum). You need to read the explanation of the algorithm that mp3gain uses to better understand this...see these two sites: http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/ http://replaygain.hydrogenaudio.org/ [alert admin]

MacMP3Gain 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I've updated the web page to explain the three options available. I've also added a FAQ at the end of the page based on these comments and e-mails from other users. I hope this helps clarify MacMP3Gain's purpose and current development status. [alert admin]

Export iTunes Playlist to M3U 3.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
script is intended for users of the AudioTron MP3 player who use their Mac as a file server. The M3U playlist format is used by the AudioTron and other MP3 players. I have heard from a few people using this for other players, but have no personal experience with those. I know of no good way to import an M3U playlist into iTunes. If you're curious about the AudioTron, check out their web site: http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audiotron/producthome.asp [alert admin]

This avoids the iPod's normal method of adjusting volume on-the-fly and is not subject to it's firmware bug. This actually adjusts the gain values for each frame of the MP3 or AAC file and the change will follow it to any player (for me, that's iTunes, iPod and SqueezeBox2).
