TiVoDecode Manager 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Long time user, so happy to see you back

I've been using TDM for several years. I found the barely-working, long-neglected version 2.1 to still be superior to Roxio's TiVo Transfer (I own Toast Titanium 10). I am still having a problem where if I select say three episodes of a show and choose "add show to queue" they end up scrambled in the queue. This is still a great app doing one show at a time, but if you're working on it again, a fix for this would be great! [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.2.1.11 (Mac OS X)

what would we do without it?

this software is so good that i'm surprised apple hasn't bought them yet. if you're a "switcher", this is one of the first things you should install. my only complaint is the somewhat tricky process of installing it that tries to get you to choose a "for pay" version. i recommend a donation anyway, but i never like this windows-like behavior. Snapz Pro X 2.1.3 (Mac OS X)

best of breed

snapz pro is an outstanding tool for much, much for than just screen captures. i love using it to record a quicktime movie of what i'm doing on-screen to share with friends for tech support. well worth the money. [alert admin]

Perian 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

must have plugin

i do informal tech support for a lot of my friends who have "switched" from a PC and I always recommend that they install Perian and Flip4Mac right away. With these two plugins installed, just about every type of media plays in Quicktime and folks don't have to fool around with VLC or MPlayer. [alert admin]

Renamer4Mac 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Very sorry, but price is too high

I've used Renamer4Mac for several years, and even made a donation prior to it becoming Shareware. I have enjoyed using this program, so I am sorry to say this, but $26 is too much to ask given the reality of the market for this type of utility. Even worse, many agree that Name Mangler (Freeware) is a better program. [alert admin]

Pixelmator 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Top "must have" is missing

Overall, this is a great app. Without getting overly granular, I have been generally happy with it since I bought it a week ago (it came in a bundle offered at MacWorld). I am eying PSE6, but would love to have an alternative for a number of reasons. This would do the trick except for one thing. <p> I just can't function without something roughly equivalent to the "History" palette in PS. I just can't. Only having one "Undo" is simply not an option. I urge the developers to add this feature soon. If they do, I will recommend this to my friends as an alternative to PSE6. [alert admin]

MacDrive 7.0.10 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Copied 30 GB, No Problems

I used this software in trial version to hook my Mac HFS+ FireWire800 drive to my Dell work laptop so I could transfer my music library. I had to use a FW800 to FW400 cable with a 6 to 4 pin adapter as Dell hasn't really embraced FireWire yet :) I wanted to say in my review that everything worked perfectly. Detractors for this software are 1) Price, and 2) Pop-up Nags. I haven't tried to uninstall it yet, so maybe that's hard too. If it was $15 I would buy a copy, but I think I'll figure something else out at the price they're asking. Software like this on the Mac is usually Shareware. [alert admin]

TiVoDecode Manager 2.1 (Mac OS X)

May I add...

...that you actually have to look hard on the developer's site to find a place to donate. If you're a loyal Mac user and use this program, I implore you to support the them! [alert admin]

The Freeware that sets you Free!

Some freeware programs deserve our thanks more than others. If you are a Mac user and have TiVo, this is such a program. Use this alone and watch anything from your TiVo on your iPod. Combine it with Visual Hub and you can take any video and do with it as you please. Thank you to the developers! [alert admin]

Like Toast?

I'm not sure about the features of Toast 8, but this program will allow you to 1) download recorded shows from your TiVo and 2) decode them into your choice of mpeg formats. It does not have an integrated "burning-to-CD/DVD" feature. My impression is that it is more aimed at putting these shows on your iPod or iTV.

Easy Upgrade - Great Hardware

I have a version 2 router, was able to install this firmware via web browser (Safari) in less than a minute. When I bought it, Linksys didn't support Macs and I don't know if that's changed. Hasn't mattered for me, I've had this unit for three years and it's never given me any problems at all. To install via browser, just type in the router's IP address, go to the "help" menu,…
