Rise of Nations 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I can't get the update to install and none of the "workarounds" Macsoft support have suggested have worked so far. It doesn't recognise my copy as upgradable for some reason. Hopefully Macsoft will be able to come up with an updater that will work before I get too much older. Has anyone else had trouble with the update? [alert admin]

Civilization IV 1.61rA (Mac OS X)
Before the patch it performed like it was doing all the graphics in software. Now it seems to be using the video card and the 128MB of VRAM in my PB. But I have all the graphics features turned to their lowest and the animations are still a bit jerky. I can't understand why this game requires so much horsepower but it will use everything you can throw at it. That said, it is playable on my 1.67GHz Powerbook G4. So if you have a high end G4 machine you might want to give it a try. If I had desktop instead of laptop graphics hardware, I'm sure it would be a bit better. But it's playable the way it is. I'm still learning so I'm not going to review the game itself because I don't know if I like it or not yet. [alert admin]

Ok. VT is showing this as being posted on 1/7/2002. It's a totally different game to Civ III and should be afforded a separate listing. Secondly, Aspyr should make a demo. The trailer just shows a bunch of movie stuff but you can't tell what is actual gameplay (if any) and what isn't. And because of the very high sys req a demo would allow people to determine for themselves if the game will run on their equipment to their satisfaction. If you need a 1.8GHz G5 just to get the thing to run as they say, then it seems like nothing less than dual core G5 would render decent gameplay. A demo would clear up the confusion and give the opportunity for people like me to buy the game rather than wait a few years until I have a new computer. [alert admin]

StarWarsScroll Screen Saver 1.1 (Mac OS X)
I just tried it with the music and it has become my default screensaver. I'll be copying it to my laptop shortly. It's Saturday as I write this and this has been a great way to end a really hectic week. Who'd of thought something so simple could have brought such a smile to my face? Thanks. [alert admin]

RadioSHARK 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
It seems that they released a new version in November with many glaring problems and many users seem to have complained. It's now nearly the end of May and they've finally released a 0.0.1 revision to fix those problems. If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about their level of commitment to this product and to their customers, I don't know what will. When the Radio Shark first came out I was extremely interested. I'm so glad I didn't buy one with all the problems they've had. And given the huge delay in fixing their software, I don't think there is anything they can do to convince me to buy one short of a one month free trial. I don't give my money to companies who obviously care very little for their customers. [alert admin]

Microsoft IntelliPoint & IntelliType 6.0 (Mac OS X)
ver 6 isn't listed on the MS site as of 10:50am Eastern US time. It would be nice if they'd tell us what's new in this version too. I never download software that won't tell me what's new if the current version works fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix, especially if they aren't proud enough of their new version to tell you it's new features. [alert admin]

Tag 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
It doesn't work with include files. The method Tag uses to render the php code seems to generate a temporary file before running it through php. php then can't find the include files because their paths are invalid. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.0 (Mac OS X)
I don't know who gave this thing 5 stars but since the software has such a huge bug as to crash what ever app loaded it when closing a wmv movie, it certainly doesn't deserve more than one star on quality and stability. Even so, it is an improvement over WMP for those who need/like to move around within a movie. That has long been my biggest gripe against WMP. If they can get the crashing fixed in 2.0.1, then I'll be able to trash WMP altogether. Something to look forward to. [alert admin]

Roller Rush 1.0 (Mac OS X)
The white screen I got on my 15" AlBook was great. Really white. But I was kind of hoping for something a little more entertaining. [alert admin]

Just because an image isn't in one of your preferred formats doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't a decent format. JPEG is excellent for it's purpose. So far there hasn't been anything better to replace it. If you're half the pro you portray yourself as you would know that. Facebook is a WEB SITE and therefore JPEG is about the only common, widely adopted format that is ideal for the task of displaying photos in albums…

The beauty of the metric system is that the units of measure actually mean something. Who's thumb is an inch wide? Who's foot is a foot long? Who's arm is a yard long? None of the "standard" units of measure actually mean anything. But with metric everything is linked. 1 cubic cm of pure water at standard temperature and air pressure (15 deg C and 1013 hPa) weights exactly 1g and has a volume of 1ml.…

The plugin gets installed into /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins. Click on the OSS 3D.bundle in column view and it will tell you the version number. Or if you don't use column view, do a get info on it.

Yeah. The biggest problem with my 20GB 3G is that if I pause, when I resume playing it won't play to the end of the song. The amount of time cut off the end of the song seems linked to how long the song remains paused. It is extremely annoying and is such an obvious software bug. It can't be that hard to track down since something is happening while the song is being paused.…

If someone wants me to try their software, which they obviously do since they went to the trouble of listing it on versiontracker, then is it too much to ask for them to tell me what it does. Microsoft doesn't make me research what Office does. They are all too eager to tell me. I'm perfectly happy to try this out if the author would pay me the small courtesy of explaining it's purpose so…

Admin password: The thing you type in to log in to os x when using your admin account (most people only have an admin account and given the fact that you don't know what this is, I'd bet you do too). This is os x 101. If you don't know what your admin password is given that you need it to log in and to install pretty much anything, then you really shouldn't be playing…

What qualifies something to be in BLUE on VT? ![]()

So VT Staff, why then isn't X-Plane in blue? It's clearly popular. It's the leading flight simulator on any platform. It's developed by a bunch of Mac guys who promote the fact that they choose macs over PCs and that this leads to their ability to produce a better product. They release their betas to the Mac community first almost always. The worst case scenario is that's mac users get updates at the same time…

You left wing kooks are unbelievable. If they'd done nothing when they heard that there was going to be a dirty bomb detonated in NY harbour you'd have said they were careless. But because they had an alert system so they could ramp up security which cought the terrorists with the dirty bomb, you say they are controlling the people. You accuse Bush of doing nothing to prevent 9/11 when it was Clinton who had numerous…
