Lexar Media Universal Reader X 3.2 (Mac OS X)
Plaintiger, only newer CF or SmartMedia readers that support the USB Mass Storage standard are plug'n'play on OS X. There are many card readers & cameras that require their own drivers -- some as little as two years old. That said, even the Viking driver that could operate some old Lexar hardware is now broken by Panther. It's finally time for me to shell out for a new reader. Thankfully you're right about them costing around fifteen bucks now: when this driver was last updated they were probably more like a hundred. [alert admin]

ChimeraKnight 1.9.4 (Mac OS X)
ChimeraKnight has suddenly started up with the invisible window syndrome. I haven't used it in about 2 weeks so I was quite surprised to see it not working tonight. The "set bounds" Applescript didn't bring the window back. Trashing prefs didn't help either. The program won't respond to a Command-Q so it might be working without my knowledge, I'm just leaving it going in the background. I do run APE (with Metallifizer, although it's set to exclude ChimeraKnight) and the only other thing I can think of that has changed lately is that I installed the Dec 2002 Developer's Tools... Griffin Final Vinyl 1.0f4 (Mac OS X)
I think you have a ground loop hum. That's not Final Vinyl's fault, beatmaster. But on to my own review... Two big flaws in this program: the manual's dumb "flower power" design makes it impossible to print out, and the program inexplicably allows you to hit quit to leave the program without warning *while it is still saving your sound file*. Aside from that and a few other confusing interface flaws, this program works as advertised and I have yet to find anything that's as easy to get started with (or as cheap!)... [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 1.1 (Mac OS X)
of FontAgent was a truly jaw-dropping utility for a fonthead like me ("Found and fixed 4380 problems with your fonts"). So I was pretty eager to give their new "pro" version with font activation a try, especially since I've found Suitcase in OS X to be unbearably slow and buggy. So far, though, FontAgent Pro is a bit of a let-down. For some reason, the app uses the "brushed metal" appearance even though it has aqua tabs, and the icons are anti-aliased to match aqua, not metal. While function is more important than appearance, this lack of attention to detail doesn't really bode well. On the plus side, though, FontAgent Pro is MUCH faster than Suitcase and I do trust its long-standing corruption-checking abilities. I have high hopes for this competitor, and I hope it improves with future releases! [alert admin]

wonderful, elegant piece of software but it's certainly not perfect... I'd love to see better auto-discovery (like the ability to read the [link rel="alternate"] tag from an HTML document). I also get some buggy behavior when pasting in links with atypical names (NNWL tries to append "/index.xml" after the filename rss.xml, for instance), and when viewing the contents of a folder, headlines are displayed in some random order rather than their order in the folder. Hope there's a bugfix or two on the way! [alert admin]

Safari Enhancer 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
purports to very well. A very nice bit of speed-programming for a browser that has only been out for 2 days. It could really, really use some documentation (please, even something on the website). "Import Chimera Bookmarks from Desktop" was added today but a little more explanation would be great. [alert admin]

Bookit X 3.0 (Mac OS X)
for dealing with bookmarks shared between Chimera and IE. The contextual menu pop-up "Transfer" selection which shows all the nested folders available is fantastic for quick categorizing and tidying of large numbers of bookmarks. Sadly there are a few bugs that detract from the power of this app--the context menu doesn't work for selections of more than one item (you have to use the menus at the top of the screen in that case); sometimes a new folder will show up as "New Folder" even after it has been renamed; documentation is lacking (I'm wary of commands like "filter duplicates" and even "sort" if they aren't documented in some way). Speedy and responsive even with 14,000 bookmarks, though. My first choice amongst bookmark managers for OS X. [alert admin]

Youpi Key 1.7.5 (Mac OS X)
and very stable. But...keyboard shortcuts are slower than I would have hoped them to be (for example, I've set Apple-Shift-D to open my Documents folder but it takes 3 or 4 seconds. Jaguar's built in Apple-Shift-A opens the Applications folder before the menu even finishes flashing). In addition, Youpi Key doesn't "really" open folders; it opens a new Finder window (using your system's default size) and then loads the folders contents into that window. This window will not honor icon placement, toolbar status, scrollbar placement or other window settings (although it will honor the View you've set). I hope these minor details can be taken care of in a future release. [alert admin]

Lexar Media Universal Reader X 3.2 (Mac OS X)
get Lexar's drivers working with OS X... but I noticed once that my Lexar reader looked a LOT like a model by Viking. I grabbed Viking's driver from http://www.vikingcomponents.com/support/odrivers/intelliflash.asp and they worked perfectly right away. So if you're having trouble, it might be worth trying!
