QuarkXPress 7.0.1 (Mac OS X)
They release 7.0.1 to work native on an INTEL chip, and don't bother to fix any of the problems with printing, and PDF times... I'm have a team of 8 designers using Quark in a heavy production environment. Sorry to say, but... QUARK SUCKS A$$ in our environment. So... Quark gives us dropshadows that take anywhere from 5-20 min (depending on how many) to print or simply create a PDF. I call bangladesh, and speak with someoene that tells me "create a preference folder within the main quark folder"... and it "may" help. the second time i call and mrs. bangladesh transfers me to a technician in america... surprise, surprise, surprise... and that A$$ has the nerve to giggle when i tell him the problem, and he says they are "aware" there are "issues"... WTF! Giggle at an end user... This is not a joke, i hope all you end users out there read this very carefully... Think twice before moving to Quark 7... IF your designers can do it in Illustrator, Photoshop and while this pains to say it... InDesign... Do it... Quark 7 is not ready for the masses in a production environment. YOU WILL PISS OFF YOUR DESIGNERS/CLIENTS WITH THE TIME WASTED THAT QUARK 7 NEEDS TO FINISH, WHAT SHOULD BE A SIMPLE TASK. QUARK, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS RELEASE. YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN! AAAAK! Canto Cumulus X 5.5.2 (Mac OS X)
25, 2003 post. We have lots of traffic on our network, throw in a pesky PowerFile DVD Jukebox and and we're asking for trouble. Well... The Cumulus 5.5.2 client update has been in use heavily on three macs (scale to 5 at any given time) since Tuesday, and has been stable so far. [alert admin]

Canto Cumulus X 5.5.2 (Mac OS X)
24, 2003 post. After retreiving the serial number from the vault, the client updates downloaded successfully. Installation was easy and fast. Our photo editors were the first to use it and there were no complaints. Everyone is accessing Cumulus Workgroup Server running on a dedicated OSX Apple server with 512mb ram. One editor is using a Beige G3/266 tower, 320mb ram. the other is a 17" iMac/800, 1gb ram, both running OS9.22. The true test will be when the archivist gets his hands on it, via another 17" iMac mirroring the set-up above. Who knows what will happen while he and both editors are working on several catalogs totaling well over 30,000 assets at the same time. More to come. [alert admin]

the update. Tried to download... Still HATE CANTO.COMs website. Who the hell remembers those long registration numbers. CANTO take a note from ADOBE, APPLE AND MACROMEDIA. Give us a sign-in/log-on option. I'm looking forward to see how it behaves, and will report back. By the way, do any of you out there use a PowerFile DVD juke box with Cumulus and OSX...? DOH! YOU CAN"T. [alert admin]

Epson Stylus Color 1520 5.6AE (Mac OS 9)
feelings over Epson. The 1520 was the first large format inkjet I purchased for approx. $500 new. The upgrade to ethernet was purchased soon after for approx. $300. Its life began with OS8.1 and now stops at OS9.1 with a PPC8600/300 it shares. I've had much success with the printer, even luck (nerve wracking most of the time) with StylusRip 4.00a. After years of successful prints, the 1520 still works like a charm (slow, but it works). Since it works well and has given me no problems with output, I can only assume others are as fortunate. Unfortunately Epson has seem to forgotten this printer its drivers, I'm unable to use it with my new G4 running OSXJaguar. I'm glad I kept the PPC8600/300 or I would be screwed. Truly a sad end for such a work-horse of a printer. [alert admin]

Epson StylusRIP 4.50 (Mac OS 9)
Stylus rip since v3.x. Last year I finally purchased it myself (v4). Now I hear that there is an update, but can't download it from the Epson site. I had this problem with earlier versions and had to pay for an upgrade, also tech support was not helpful. I hate it when these companies block you from getting an update that you need. [alert admin]
