SlimBatteryMonitor 1.4 (Mac OS X)

Great small battery status monitor.

I used this application on PowerBook G4 12-inch which has limited screen real estate and now I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro but still use SlimBattery meter since nowadays applications have grown their menubar presence so this applications helps. SlimBattery Monitor has many customization features like shape of the meter, warnings and what displays with battery monitor. The Apple Battery Status is good but takes too much space in the menubar and limited customization. [alert admin]

Symantec NAV/SAV virus def Sep 8 (Mac OS X)

What the...

I see that the Intelligent Updater web page shows that this page has been updated to September 8, 2008: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/index.jsp But the AntiVirus for Mac still shows September 5, 2008: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=nmc Also LiveUpdate doesn't show any updates since September 5, 2008. I noticed Symantec has recently release bad definitions and now incorrect date information on their website. Symantec has and is loosing touch with their original core values and it is scaring me with the release of bad virus definitions and incorrect website information. [alert admin]

Symantec NAV/SAV virus def Feb 15 (Mac OS X)

Slow in pushing updates.

I noticed that Symantec has a real problem synchronizing their Intelligent Update with LiveUpdates. For example this week's Intelligent Update came out on Wednesday February 28, 2007 but I cannot get LiveUpdate to get it. Right now on March 1,2007 at 0950 PST I still cannot get it. The LiveUpdate still thinks the February 21, 2007 virus definitions are current which they are not. I can verify this with opening Norton AntiVirus which shows the definitions date of February 21, 2007. Also converse is true where the LiveUpdate is update early but I cannot current get the Intelligent Update from their website for that week. It is worst for Macintosh Platform but it is not as bad for the other platforms they support. [alert admin]

Calindock 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)

Works great since 10.1.5....

I have been using Calendock since 10.1.5 and now I'm on 1.4.2 and it still works great. All I wanted to show the calendar of the month I'm in this program does perfectly so I can go to the dock and show me the month and do some simple schedling with opening an calendar program with take a few seconds. This shows how an simple program will work through a several major upgrades of the OS X series. However I don't think it will leap to the Intel platform unless there is a transition application or recomplie. [alert admin]

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 10.0.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Only way to go if your Symantac AV fan for Tiger.

If on Tiger and if you like Symantec Anti-Virus fan then this verion 10.* is only way to go. If you have Symantec Anti-Virus 9.* won't scan new mounted files because of the library change so I won't load correctly. I have both Clamav and Symantec AV and each has advantages so you need to pick which on is the best for you. [alert admin]

Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router 2.04.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Just updated it works great with Airport update 08-31-2004.

I did update Airport update for the Airport Card 3.4.3 August 31, 2004 and it seems to help some with signal for my TiBook which was never great for wireless reception. Yesterday September 2, 2004 I updated my WRT54G router and when I used to get only 2 bars for reception now I get 3. [alert admin]

Disc Burner 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Crashes in Panther

Thank you for making this product and it works great in Jaguar. However the people who migrated to Panther (10.3.*) has problems crash when they try to write the the disk. For CD-RW disk Quick Erase seems to work but not Erase. I have no problems with using Panther's built-in burner. [alert admin]

LiveUpdate servers updated

HI Mike, Good to hear from you. Yes it is pain to push software to mirrors in many places but is there a process to make sure the software is correct so prevent this problem from happening? I notice since June 1, 2009 that you have been pushing virus definitions for Mac nearly daily which is good since malware writers don't stop and even increased their attacks on the Mac now. Thank you, Frank

Does Nothing

Strange. I've been using CronniX to run freshclam to check clamav virus definitions every few hours for nearly 3 years on my MacBookPro. I started using the MacBookPro with 10.4.11 and it is now running 10.5.7 but I still have no problems with CronniX. I do admit that it is not for the faint of heart but it is better than editing crontab via command line in terminal or X11.

Time for this to just go away

Well, unless you only interact with only Mac people then yes, however, for the rest of us that interact with MS Windows and Linux people that send files as zip, tar.gz, tgz, and other compression formats we will still need this, at least for the graphical interface. I know you can do command line for these but some still like the graphical interface of Stuffit.

People are still using this....'pointlessware'?!

Macs for the most part are secure but not "bulletproof". There will never be a system that is truly "bulletproof", except one that not connected to the network or have any input ports so no new information can be entered. I know there are a bunch of proof of concept vulnerabilities that haven't made it to "prime time" but they exist. Also most these proof of concept have been patched by Apple and other manufactures…

I still use it!

Ditto. I updated to NAV 11 to take advantage of it being Universal Binary on my MacBook Pro. It is good of you and others thinking about malware from other OSes since we all must interact with other people on other operating systems and those other operating systems are vulnerable to viruses and malware. However Mac are not totally out of the woods in terms of malware and vulnerabilities since recently people have found problems…

Dead Links

Symantec is very slow in posting and updating their webpages especially this Mac section. So you will see a link in the webpage but they haven't put the file to upload. They have been doing this for years and you need to nag them about this on their tech support page. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/productdetail/contact_ts.jsp?pvid=navm_11http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/productdetail/contact_ts.jsp?pvid=navm_11 This is their outsourced help desk so they are slow to respond and have "canned" replies. But nagging them at this page does "encourage"…

Uninstall Instructions

Get the Logitech Installer "lcc240.zip" and then open the Logitech Control Center Installer. Once the Logitech Control Center Installer then click on the "LCC Installer" in menu bar and there should be the Uninstaller in the drop down menu. I hope this helps. Frank

Bad software...

Your right. Logitech has great hardware but totally buggy software. This occurs both in Mac and Windows environments which is surprising.

Inexcusable

The Logitech software is truly bad. I never seen so many problems with software from a hardware manufacture and they are not will to fix. However this is not limited to Macs but Windows also. I have contacted Logitech customer service but I get the run around about un-installing and then re-installing the drivers but my most recent incident with my Logitech mouse actually locked up my MacBookPro keyboard and trackpad. I couldn't get any response…

Good product for PCs, but why use it on a Mac?

I don't what environment you have but Symantec has detected several viruses that clamav and MacAffee have missed. I do agree there are not many Mac viruses out there because of the low user ratio (about 5%) so malware writers concentrate on Windows. However with the advent of Mac going to the Intel platform and having WINE/CrossOver with Windows OS on your system you system can get "infected" by an Windows malware also and if the…
