Missing Sync for Palm OS 6.0.4 (Mac OS X)
After upgrading to Leopard, I bought the MS 6 upgrade to continue using my Palm TX with my MacBook. Things work, but I swear that about 75% of my syncs now end in the Mac application crashing--crazy. I almost always send my crash reports in, so I hope a 6.0.5 update will appear soon. Startup time for v6 seems to be very slow, which adds to frustration following crashes. Though it's Apple's fault, the program can no longer mount external memory cards on the Desktop, something I loved under Tiger. For syncing a Palm under Mac OS X, this is really the only game in town. It does a competent job, and if you use J-OS to use Japanese on your Palm, the program will handle Japanese text syncs well. iStock 1.3.3 (Mac OS X)
For $15, I think this program has been a reasonably good buy. It will track your stocks, create charts, allow multiple portfolios, and even track currencies (nifty!). However, it could be even better if users could: 1) add their individual stocks' dividends (as a preference even) 2) add a note column (e.g., to remind yourself what the company's core business is) 3) incrementally add share buys (instead of having to recalculate the whole cost-basis following the 20 more shares you just bought) Basically I want the Palm OS program StockManager on the Mac ;-) [alert admin]

Quick News for Palm OS 1.24 (Palm OS)
I've used QuickNews on my Palm TX for a long time to download feeds with both the Mac conduit and direct with WiFi. For Palm OS, the program is generally stable and works well with other applications (e.g., passing feeds' article links to email programs or a browser like Xiino (but not Opera).) It shows, as an option, embedded images, and lets you choose which feeds to download depending on your connection (conduit or direct). My only gripe, and a piddling one it is, is that QN cannot display Japanese feeds, even though I have J-OS installed. However, I don't hold that against the developer at all. [alert admin]

Xiino 3.4.1E (Palm OS)
I registered my copy of Xiino a few years ago. I still use it every day, usually to read articles from RSS feeds read in QuickNews. I note that the company's website (www.mobirus.com) is now gone, which I assume means the sad end of Xiino. I still recommend it, but it's probably dead to future development (there haven't been any updates to it in years anyway). [alert admin]

FontSight 3.2 (Mac OS X)
I use application this on a MacBook, Tiger 10.4.11, without any trouble. Handy! [alert admin]

Global Warmth 2.3 (Mac OS X)
I've bought licenses for both Global Warmth (first) and WeatherPop (second); WeatherPop is better because it's cheaper ($8 vs. $19) and it allows input from various weather sites (GW apparently allows only one source). I also prefer having WeatherPop in the menubar, out of the way, whereas GW stays in the Dock. In short, Global Warmth is OK, but WeatherPop is better. [alert admin]

iData 3.0.5 (Mac OS X)
I like iData 3 (and liked v2) very much but I miss the Palm conduit that v1 had. Thankfully there is JFile Companion (JFC) for reading and writing Palm JFile databases. Export your iData files as tab-delimited files (sadly, you must do without freeform field data), choose the right JFC conversion template, convert, and install to your Palm. To go Palm to iData, backup your Palm; if you've already made JFC templates for your JFile databases, just double-click on the backed up pdb files in JFC and it will convert them to tab-delimited files you can import and merge into your iData files. I keep lesson plans, software updates, and other things "synced" in both iData and JFile this way. A conduit would be better, but this will do just fine. [alert admin]

SuperWaba 5.7 (Palm OS)
If you use J-OS to get Japanese language support on your Palm OS5 PDA, you might find that SuperWaba won't display text. Buttons, popups, and such still work just fine, but text won't display. I don't think this issue appeared when I used CJKOS for Japanese character display, although I've not used CJKOS for about a year and thus don't recall. [alert admin]

GyazMail 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)
Building frustrated with Mail.app occasionally crashing and sending garbled Japanese (especially to Windows users) turned me to GyazMail. Those two Mail.app problems have vanished. Now I also have much greater customizability and support is very responsive. Since the license is one per person, you can install GyazMail on all your Macs, which makes its price very reasonable, although I did get my employer to pay for a copy for my work Mac anyway. :-) [alert admin]

JFile Companion 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
I've been using this program for quite some time and absolutely love it for doing what I want: working with JFile databases and iData2. As the previous reviewer notes, this fills a niche: there are no other Mac applications for working with JFiles. The developer is extremely courteous and fast, when his full-time job schedule alllows. I notified him of a little trouble in this version on my new Intel MaBook and he quickly applied some fixes, let me test a beta, and put out the 1.0.7 update, which I've just downloaded. Superb program and developer! [alert admin]

The company was delisted from the Vancouver stock exchange a while back. I think you can still buy the product, but I wouldn't expect any more updates. :-(

I had similar experiences trying this software and junked it. I found the freeware Clutter to be much better, especially since--nearly 40 years old--I still listen to plenty of CDs not available on iTunes or even no longer being pressed, so the program can't always autodownload a cover. However, if I scan or otherwise obtain a cover, I can drop it on Clutter's window and it'll display whenever the proper CD is played through iTunes. Yay!

Hopefully some Unicode support for multilingual hotspot text. That quibble aside, I think CubicConnector is a great program for working with QTVR content.

How does PTGui compare to PTMac, other than costing more (even more now with the wimpy USD) and offering full fisheye support (PTMac is officially limited to 160 degees' field-of-view, although there is unofficial support for full fisheye shots)? Though a novice, I use a fisheye and 16-bit images in PTMac and get (I think) good output, although PTMac's workflow is not wholly 16-bit-friendly. PTMac upgrades have been steady, usually (always? I can't recall) free, and…

Yes, I've read the conduit has problems with MissingSync, but it works just fine for me on OS 10.3.x with all MissingSyncs from v4+. However, if I have non-ASCII text documents (I have some Japanese text files on my Palm), WordSmith will try to sync those and choke. Now, if the DocsToGo people would add better keyboard support so I could skip about text documents easily with Option-arrow or other such keystrokes instead of having to…

I registered Gradekeeper back at version 4 I believe, but Palm support is apparently not planned, according to the developer (from an old email exchange, though). As a result, I finally opted for EasyGradePro X and its extra cost conduit, which run $99 together, but the Palm conduit and the app superb. The app itself offers everything Gradekeeper does and then some.
