I tried this out for a few hours because I'm looking to switch and there was a very good deal on this app. Parts I love, the app tracking was very nice. Except that once you move one of the tracked items on to a job item you loose the original and the start stop time doesn't travel with it! It has some nice invoicing BUT if you want to do anything beyond the very basic you have to code your invoice in HTML. I do sound not web programing. Support seems to think if you don't know HTML then you shouldn't be using software. You can drop times from the app monitor or separate timers on to a billable item BUT in the info it doesn't show the times or dates. There are a number of "recalculate" buttons but clicking is a no-no. It will recalculate on info ONLY in that little section and you will loose ALL time info that you have entered. I REALLY wanted to like this app but I found it SO much easier to create inaccurate ugly invoices than accurate professional looking ones. And why does one get this kind of software in the first place????????? [alert admin]

BlueBox Invoices 1.4 (Mac OS X)
As others have said it doesn't work with current FM versions. I emailed and he actually sent me files so I could try to port to a more recent version of FM. I should try this but I got bogged down with other projects. For some reason it has gotten very slow, though that may be FM's fault - or more accurately the fault of running a very outdated version of FM on an OS it was not designed for. Billings is the only thing I have found that I might be willing to switch to but it's twice the price and I won't be able to import, probably, and I would MUCH RATHER stick with an updated BBI. But alas I think the prospects are slim. I think this is a pretty much abandoned app. Though ironically as I mentioned I have still gotten very good support, just no word on an update. I may bite the bullet and try to do a port, but if it doesn't "just work" I'm pretty lost. [alert admin]

Melody Assistant 7.4.7c (Mac OS X)
The app is OK but the claim of free upgrades is BS. The Intel upgrade is a "payed" upgrade for all those folks who bought it even though it was and still is stated that ALL FUTURE UPGRADES are free. Very bad form on the developers part. And the price listed above is incorrect. It's $25 new and $19 as an upgrade/ Not only is it not free it's almost full price! [alert admin]

Springy 1.5 (Mac OS X)
THe guy who is running around claiming false advertising is, I was going to say an idiot, but he's probably smart enough. He made assumptions and then expected the developer to some how "make it happen". He also didn't hear a word of the very patient explanations. His chief complaint is that split archives are not supported by other Mac applications, even though it is a standard format. Which is like saying Microsoft WORD is not a Mac word processor because not every word processor on the Mac can open .doc files. I have been testing Spriny today and it does everything it says it does and does it quite well. I have a small collection of archiving tools right now and I plan to dump the rest of them and just use Springy. It's fast and has some features that are not available on any other archiving utility on the Mac. Ironically that was basically the malcontents problem, that the developer had the nerve to do some things that nobody else on the Mac was doing yet! How dare he!!! [alert admin]

DVDpedia 1.4.4 (Mac OS X)
I only put in the Mac part because someone said this app was PC like???? Very solid, fast, easy to use and fairly priced. I tried the others and bought this one. I'm not sure what others have found to complain about it's been very solid for me. One quibble is that the documentation is not as complete as it could be. There are cases where you need to get the IMDB # for a film and its not clear where to get that # (its in the page address for the film). [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I think it's a tat slower than DVD Backup but you don't have to start the disk in DVD Player so it's probably a tossup. BUT since you can do a lot of trimming at this stage you often don't need any other app to shrink the film to a burnable size and that is a big time saver. The only minor hitch is related to the power and that is there can be a lot of options to check, but the complexity is optional and part of the power - so I took one star off ease of use, should really have been 1/2 a star off but that isn't an option. Fast DVD Copy 2.7 (Mac OS X)
So I've been using the multi step way for a while so I'm not new to the process... This app is quite slow, over an hour to process one disk - and for a lot less $$. Also after this lengthy adventure the disk was not good. It would start at chapter 3 and disabled all navigation controls so I can't say what the rest of the disk was like or if Chapters 1&2 even exist. It's pricey but the one click aspect would be a seller for some, but not if it doesn't work. [alert admin]

Linksys befsr41/befsr11/befsru31 1.46.2 (Mac OS X)
First off I have an older 41 so that may be some of the issue. BUT trying to up date from 1.42.7, Safari was a no-go and Explorer didn't seem to work either (not sure why since I had used the browser update before?) so I did the TFTP thing and all was fine. Except many URL's wouldn't load, mail wouldn't connect etc. Tried to go to a version that folks seemed to think was more stable but the Linksys is one of the URL's that wouldn't connect. Found my old firmware. Downgrading was a breeze through the browser. Went to Linksys's FTP site to get some older supposedly working firmware versions (1.45.7 & 1.44.2z) Tried 1.45.7 - same problems as the latest version. Tried 1.44.2z and that seems to be working. I only went on this adventure because I was having to reset the router every couple of weeks or so when it would "get lost" and not connect. I get the feeling that this is more of an issue with OS X (so probably Unix also) than it is with Windows, though that seems strange since they do a lot of Unix systems? Anyway the ONLY Mac issues I know of with Linksys is that in the early days you couldn't update the firmware with out Windows and there tech help doesn't know jack about Macs, but you should be used to that by now - most ISP's don't know much either etc, etc ,etc. Hey but they upgraded the firmware (the one that I was using) to do PPoE just in time to save my bacon (ISP changed service) so I give them points. Personally I don't want my invoice and client info on someone else's server. How am I going to defend that choice when someone hacks in to your server and my clients info is stolen? I also do not want to be dependent on a web connection to be able to invoice. But maybe that's just me. I see how it's cheaper and easier for you as a developer and for some…

FYI Stuffit can expand EXE files if they are auto extract and not apps. In other words if you drop it on unstuff it will unstuffit just as if it were a zip file. At least on OSX.
