Apple Security Update 2009-003 (Mac OS X)
I rarely post on VT unless something exceptionally good or bad happens. I've been an exclusive advanced Mac User since 1987... this update on my Intel Core Duo MacBookPro15 went very very smooth as most of these update do (for me). After the update... everything on my Mac has speeded up 10-15%, graphics are clearer and render quicker, all my applications just seem to start-up quicker and close/quit without incident. Typically... this doesn't happen... or there is some minor issue/sluggishness after an update. I always run applejack AUTO before an update... then use Software Update to update... then let the system restart until I get a complete reboot... then restart again and run applejack AUTO (and then clear the user caches)... then restart again. Very very pleased with this update. Daily use of the following applications... WebKit (nightly downloads), FireFox 3.5.2, MicroSoft Office 2008 (mostly Entourage), Skype (latest beta), FileMakerPro9 Advanced, DreamWeaver CS3, Ready-Set-Go 7.8(beta), still use an older version of AppleWorks, AudioHiJack, BBedit, Fetch, several plugins too numerous to mention. By the way... been a loyal daily VersionTracker viewer/user since they first launched... what a great service to the user community. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 4.0 (Mac OS X)
Safari 4.0 running on Intel Core Duo laptop 10.4.11... crashes immediately when launched. Repaired permissions before and after. Installed twice with same results. Cannot figure out what is wrong. Tried to find previous version of Safari to download and reinstall... but no luck. Could not find any details on this or how to fix on MacFixit. Help?? [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)
What happened to the "resend" option/button? ![]()

I recently upgraded to Office 2008... been a long-time user of Office X, 2004, etc.. Used all programs especially Entourage and Power Point. I use Excel and Word but certainly not a power user. For the most part this Office 2008 upgrade has been a pleasant experience. Definitely more elegant than previous versions. I find, however, many of the features I became accustomed to in 2004 and X... are not in 2008... like the "Resend" button/option for Entourage which I used everyday. Certain functions in Excel are gone or changed the short-cut... palettes are laid out a little different. For the most part this is okay... I can get used to it... but... sure would like an upgrade to not lose its functionality from previous versions. [alert admin]

Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28.0 (Mac OS X)
Be sure to repair permissions before and especially after installation. Several permissions were repaired after installation. [alert admin]

Yahoo! Messenger 3.0b1 (Mac OS X)
Still having WebCam problem...
I like the look and feel... and ability to set up profiles on all friends. However, I cannot view cams I have been invited to to view. And when I invite someone to view my cam... they cannot see my invitation. [alert admin]

Audacity X 1.3.0 (Mac OS X)
1.3.0 creates corruption in exporting to mp3 files after about 10-15 seconds. 1.2.3 does not cause this corruption. 1.2.3 will not recognize my Griffin Powerwave USB for input or output, but 1.3.0 does. Older version used to crash on me all the time in OS9. 1.2.3 and 1.3.0 seem stable so far. Noise reduction seems flakey and other features are hard to use and understand unless you are an audioHEAD. It's free and I use it occassionally for various projects. I did not mind paying $32 for AudioHiJack... both Audacity and AudioHJack are extremely valubale combo. [alert admin]

AppleJack 1.4.2 (Mac OS X)
I have used APplejack on a G4 Platinum Powerbook for about two years. It worked great up until 10.4 release and had problem with unstoppable looping in the Repair Permissions. 1.4.2 seems to have corrected this problem. However, I have noticed whether using Applejack or Disk Utility Repair Permissions that when I run Repair Permissions... the same permissions are being repaired over and over again each time. Like it is not repairing permission otherwise why would I see the exact same repairs again and again on the same files/etc?? Can anyone answer that question? Thanks. [alert admin]

Apple AirPort 4.2 (Mac OS X)
I was able to re-install firmware 5.5.1 (airport extreme) and since then I have had ZERO problems or issues. I would not upgrade to 5.6 firmware. See my other comments below. [alert admin]

Apple AirPort 4.2 (Mac OS X)
This continues my previous review... AIRPORT completely goes off line seemingly intermittently. Since intalling 4.2 it has crashed about 15 times. Only way to get it back online is to reset and reconfigure. I would NOT install this update. [alert admin]

Apple AirPort 4.2 (Mac OS X)
I installed with no problem, however, I noticed I was getting poor network performance after installing. Was getting fluxuating 1-3 bars on the signal strength. I attempted to change network security to WPA2 Personal and lost airport completely. Only after a complete reset and reconfiguration did the Airport return. I am getting 3 bars consistently with Multicast set at 11 and robustness turned on. WPA2 Personal security is working. [alert admin]
