Skavenjer 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
1. Skavenjer sounds like a very useful app, so I d/l'ed it ("This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: Mac OS X 10.5 Intel), and it unzipped, launched, and ran on my decidedly NON-Intel iBook G4. 2. Skavenjer runs from "root," which gives it an advantage over the other data recovery apps I've seen, all of which must be run from a different volume. 3. Skavenjer's trial mode searches only the first 5% of your HD, which makes evaluating it a dicey issue, since there's no way of knowing whether what you're searching for resides in that portion of your HD. (I'll guess that the first 5% of an HD is filled with system files, doesn't have much, if any, space to be written to, and that the chances of finding any lost data residing there are between slim and none. [Please correct me if that's wrong.]) 4. To be diligent, I logged in as root, created a miniscule TextEdit document, trashed it, and began a search for a term included in the doc's text. Since there's no mention made anywhere of how long a search ought take (Is a guess that a scan of "the surface of your computer's hard disk for the search term you specify" will take on the order of the same amount of time as a surface scan reasonable?), I quit the app before mine completed, unwilling to invest the time that looked to be necessary to complete a search I considered to be in all likelihood futile, but not before discovering more than 20 THOUSAND error messages in Console, i.e. "There was an error: block 0, blocksize 262144, total blocks 0," that suggest a snag that was not reported by the app itself. 5. Neither on Skavenger's VT page or website, nor within the app itself is a potential purchaser advised either how much the app costs or how to go about registering it. All in all, I'd say that the guys at Bleecker Street Solutions ought to spend more time reconsidering the ins, outs, details, and documentation of their app. [alert admin]

iShow Invisible 1.2 (Mac OS X)
When I click on the "Hide Quit" radio button the last app I hid comes to the front, but with Finder selected. Otherwise, it works quickly and, so far, with no glitches. [alert admin]

Platz! [<-] 0.5b (Mac OS X)
How do you search for this app?
I learned its name, "Platz," when it appeared up on my screen when I d/l'd <--, but try searching VersionTracker for this app. Developer needs to change hir listing. [alert admin]

QueueMemo 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
and it seems to do precisely what it says it does. Now your desktop does not have to be littered with app specific Stickies; launch an app, and its related memos materialize along with it. [alert admin]

DiskWarrior 4.1 (Mac OS X)
I misspoke. That quote <http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/support.html> applies to the currently available DW v4.1 Revision 42 CD. The CD you burn with this update is FULLY LEOPARD COMPATIBLE, but it cannot boot any Mac that your original DW CD cannot boot. To use DW v4.1 on a Mac that your original CD cannot boot you've got to run it from another volume. (To make a long story short, this is due to understandable Apple restrictions on Alsoft's d/l'ing OS X.) [alert admin]

> "The trial version of Skavenjer limits searches to the first 5% of your disk. The trial version puts a default search term of "apple" in the search box, a word that occurs frequently in the first 5% of most any Mac startup disk. This allows the user to test the full functionality of Skavenjer before deciding to purchase the product." I'm not certain how Skavenjer's finding something that has NOT been trashed demonstrates its ability…

Well what the hell do you expect when you try to run a Tiger app with no need to be backwards compatible, because it's designed to deal with an issue that NEVER existed pre-Tiger?

How about sticking to posting "Commentary" and letting this asshole's absurd attempts to extract $$$ from half-wits fly without your stars? I'm beginning to think that you ARE this asshole.

The fact that this app is not Intel Mac compatible does NOT affect its functionality or any of the other criteria with which a star review deals. Please do developers a favor and stick to commentary when commentary is all you've got to offer.
