iPodRip 1.2.5 (Mac OS X)

Don't trust it

I download iPodRip from the developer's site. Trialed it before I paid. Once the register flag came up (after 20 tracks) my Intel Mac completely locked up. No mouse, no ability to Force Quit using the keyboard. I don't know if this is normal. Whatever, I pitched the software and went on to another. [alert admin]

Scheduler for Macintosh 5.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Does not work

Intel Mac trying to use 5.0.5. "Fatal Error. Corrupted resource file. Please install a new copy of Scheduler" is all I can get no matter how many times I uninstall it (using its Uninstall function and clearing out the App Support and Preference files) then downloading a another copy. [alert admin]

Linked Applications Launcher 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Does not work

I installed it on an Intel Mac. The first dialog box asked for a reg code. If you don't have one (you have not paid) then you click later and , and , and , nothing. Reinstalled it twice, restarted, permissions. Nothing. You have to go to Activity Monitor to quit it as its running but does not show any windows. [alert admin]

CronniX 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Does Nothing

On an Intel iMac ConniX does not appear to do anything. I've done far more complicated scripts than I'm trying in ConniX and they run just fine. Even the New Year's sample that comes preloaded does not respond to the "Run Now" command. Not for the faint of heart or, does not work with Intel. Otherwise a nice app. If you need the functionality and it runs on a PPC, do it. [alert admin]

Google Picasa 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Another useless app

If you're broke and have a few photos it works. The free app that comes with Nikon, Sony or Canon cameras is better. Probably all of them are. If you have never used a photo browsing/editing app before, you can do a lot better. Pay the price, its worth it. If you have used a browsing/editing app before, there's nothing in Picasa that will be of interest to you. If you have lots of images, like whatever organization you use or don't enjoy watching Picasa loading untold quantities of images everytime you start the app, don't bother downloading it. After 2 months of poking around in it and seeing what it can do, it still has not finished its process of loading all my images, the organization is poor and I have yet to come across a feature I did not already have in a host of other photo browsing/editing apps -- most discarded but still better. Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Thanks

I want to thank all of the previous reviewers of PSE6. Half way through the install I realized this would be a potential mess. Came here. Read. Aborted the install. [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.5 (Mac OS X)

so so

The only reason to get Firefox is for the dTA download manager. Otherwise Safari or Omniweb are much nicer experiences. Cons: slow jumpy on a 1.5GHz G4 Powerbook lousy interface - pure ms land maintenance of add-ons [alert admin]

Camino 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)

ok browser

After too many problems with Safari (since 3.1) I tried Camino last week. Pro's: Far more stable than Safari. Con's: Slower than Safari. Opens a bit quicker but pages with lot's of flash are much slower to load. Although you can see them, the links respond ponderously slow and scrolling is non-responsive or jumpy. This lasts a while then finally tames down. I think the issue is blocked Flash. I use SafariBlock in Safari and perhaps it does a better job than whatever Camino uses. Once Safari settles down, I'll probably go back. If it does not, Camino is ok. [alert admin]

Mac does not sleep with 2.4

I also have a Quicksilver 2002. You might try this as it worked for me. In Activity Monitor, quit the Logitech Control Center Daemon (you might have to force quit, I forget). It will immediately re-activate itself. Restart the Mac (don't know if this is necessary but its what I did). My Quicksilver sleeps and awakes just fine now. This is after chasing the sleep problem for years.

No problems here

Dowloaded it and used it for a few hours unlicensed. Works exactly as advertised. Great software. Simple to install, simple to use and appears bullet proof.

1.4.1_beta

Has anyone tried the 1.4.1_beta driver (Sept 1, 2005)? Starting to look like people are abandoning M-Audio based on the zero amount of feedback since the beta driver release. I'm waiting on M-Audio before I bother updating to Tiger. Or, any cards that work (please don't suggest any USB or FW devices)?
