SlingPlayer 1.0.9 (Mac OS X)

1.0.9 works on my original Slingbox

I've got the very first Slingbox. I've installed 1.0.9. It did NOT ask to update the firmware of my Slingbox, but the SlingPlayer is streaming my content anyway. I don't notice a change in quality streaming over my local network, but it looks as good as I expect it to since it's only hooked up to via an S-Video cable. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 10.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Rebate issues aside, it's a good program

It's disappointing to read the rebate woes people have reported here. I did not have trouble getting my rebate, although I purchased the software directly through the Roxio store. Beyond the rebate issues, I still find Toast to be a very good application. I've been a user of Toast over many versions and version 10 has worked as well as any past versions for me. It's the only way to get content off of my TiVo and it does make the burning of discs (video, audio, & data) pretty painless. You do pay for the features though. It's not an inexpensive piece of software. [alert admin]

Spanning Sync 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)

A necessary piece of software

I've been using Spanning Sync for about 5 months now. It fits in nicely with how I manage my calendar. There are several reviews here about the price and whether the "lifetime" option is a good or bad thing. I chose the "lifetime" option for my purchase of Spanning Sync. The timeframe to make the $65 a better deal than the per year price is over 2 years, so that's a calculation you'll have to make on your own. The fact that the price is the issue I read about most and not whether it works or not gives you an idea on the quality of the software. It works. You might consider it expensive, but it does work. In my personal experience, I've had very little trouble with the software. There have been a couple times that the server was down, but that was quickly fixed. I've also received prompt email support when I've contacted them. [alert admin]

PodWorks 2.9.2 (Mac OS X)

PodWorks Is Back on Top

PodWorks used to be the best software for managing the transfer of songs from an iPod to a Mac. Unfortunately through several versions of iTunes, PodWorks stopped working due to lack of updates. I'm very happy that it's been brought back to life. Kudos to the developer for putting the time and effort into keeping it up to date! I originally purchased it for its ability to retain playlists. That feature is now present in other iPod transfer software, but the interface here and PodWorks "feel" just feels right and still takes the cake as "Mac-like" for me. IMO, if you're looking for the easiest and best iPod utility, here it is. [alert admin]

iShowU 1.38 (Mac OS X)

Agree Activation of Product Scheme is Unwelcomed

Be warned that this software now implements the an increasingly popular scheme of phoning home before activating your software. Just like DRMing music, this only hurts the people who legitimately pay for their software. That being said, I'm still using the software. It's a universal app and is significantly cheaper than SnapZ Pro. [alert admin]

PandoraJam 1.0 build 21 (Mac OS X)

Software that perfectly fills in the gaps left open in Pandora.

I love Pandora and have found many new artists whose music I have bought. PandoraJam brings the Pandora service to the next level. One of the simpler pleasure of it is that it is not a web browser. If your Safari or Firefox crashes, your music doesn't crash with it. Nice. [alert admin]

PodWorks 2.8.5 (Mac OS X)

Stop using PodWorks -- outdated.

PodWorks was an excellent piece of software. Unfortunately it's just not up-to-date anymore. If you've read some reviews below, you'll know you might damage your iPod library by using it. Until the developer takes it to a new version, stay away from it. [alert admin]

FileChute 2.5.8 (Mac OS X)

Simple, Smart Utility

I've used FileChute personally for about 2 months and have recommended it to several friends already. It's a simple, elegant solution to a recurring problem, sending big files around the internet that don't always fit in an email. Very nice. [alert admin]

PTHPasteboard Pro 4.0.0 (Mac OS X)

One of the most useful apps for the Mac.

PTHPasteboard (either the Pro version or the standard version) is one of the first apps I put on any new Mac I get. Once you use it, you quickly realize that having only one item available in your clipboard is not enough. I don't actually use the Pro features much, but I upgraded to Pro simply to support such a great piece of software. The Pro version does allow clipboard syncing across multiple computers though, which is a pretty cool feature. It's worked perfectly for me in the instances I've used that feature in. [alert admin]

iShowU / Registration / Activtion

Thank you, Neil. It's great to hear from you on VersionTracker about this issue. I think the reactions to the "phoning home" being added to iShowU is just a reaction from many people out in the world who've been bitten by software that phones home. I've been locked out of my very expensive Adobe apps which required over a day to get reactivate. I also have the constant expectation that my Windows XP will suddenly…
